I think folks are missing a big part of anons facebook group.  This persons friends, who are in the group for dirty jokes and such, are saying they are crossing a line.  That is very telling to me and makes me think that this person is really crossing a line.  Also we should all be aware that very little in the world is black and white, being pc and not being pc can both represent a range of things from being truthful to being an asshole, context is everything and it's impossible to say weather being pc is good or bad without that context.

Also, Ashley missed her straw, you thought we wouldn't see it.....but we did.

I think that last segment is really good, gave some solid advice for anyone who's interested in experiencing themselves or something new. If it's the first time or you're having difficulties, take it slow, don't expect instant results and just be patient with yourself, it'll happen eventually and it'll be worth the wait c:

I always thought of "big balls" comments referring to the tendency to take risks rather than being strong. Like if you are used to taking risks by having something big and vulnerable just swinging around between your legs that must explain your ability to take risks in other areas.

That doesn't discount that it's a very gender specific term but I don't think the overwhelming power of the all mighty vagina is a relevant gender comparison.

I have been thinking about the use of PC.  Just about everything I can think of that is referred to as politically correct is based in compassion.  Replace "PC" with "compassionate" and see if the argument still holds up.

    • holidayhippie11 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Oh bullshit. PC is self-censorship or censorship of others simply because you're afraid of getting your feelings hurt, or afraid of hurting other people's feelings.

News flash, reality does not conform to how you feel. If you feel like every person you see is laughing at you internally and thinks badly of you, take a step back from your feelings and realize that they are not the reality of the situation.

If someone laughs at me and thinks I'm a bad father because I work for a living instead of being a stay-at-home dad, it is their right to have that opinion. It is also my right to completely ignore that opinion because it does not correspond to reality.

PC is valuing feelings and emotions at a higher level than truth.

I always thought that when people call other people "pussy" that it evolved from the phrase scaredy-cat.  Then people pushed it to mean being a vagina since it shares the same word and it's a funny double-meaning (although it isn't really funny).  But when I hear someone say "pussy" I almost never think they mean "don't be a vagina", I think they just mean scaredy-cat.

Man, what a great episode. I think the Anon sent the comment coming from a good place, obviously they're misguided. I think most people have realized that there are a ton of assholes in this world and most people have also noticed that there is a ton of people trying to make the world a better place, and those two groups don't get along very well. I think there's a matriarchy developing, a world where women are the true leaders and role models, and I think there has always been a patriarchy present, where men are the true leaders and role models. I think people who grow up in these two environments have a very hard time communicating. I think this is a fact we need to face, because you'll see scrolling through the comments that the anon fb group message segment was polarizing. I think both sides have a long road ahead, especially with how politics look right now. Here in Canada we have a leader who everyone likes as a person, but who may not be the best leader. In the US, you have a leader who everyone openly hates but may not be the worst leader. In Canada, the matriarchy is clearly in power, yet Canadians openly hate Trudeau. In the US, the patriarchy is making a comeback yet Americans openly hate Trump. Lots of shit to think about tbh.

About the fb group segment, the always open group acknowledged that they had very little information about this person and their issue, then immediately called them an arsehole and denigrated the person. Also I know this isn't a debating show, but if you are going to talk about topics which will divide opinion have at least one person who will voice a different opinion, even if they are just playing devils advocate.

So I think I could play devils advocate here, in saying that I think Barb and the others were very uninformed on why people like to makes jokes that could be considered too insensitive of offensive, especially when they called people in those groups "uneducated" or "Unenlightened" or just straight up assholes. For me and a group of my friends, we all make those kinds of jokes all the time, but only ever in the context of that group, because we know how insensitive they could sound to people who don't have the sense of humor that we do. And when I say sense of humor, I'm not saying we like offending people, or are actually trying to be racist, or homophobic. We just find the idea of those kinds of anti-PC or dark jokes funny precisely because they are so extreme, and outside the bounds of what people would consider normal humor, and we also find it laughable that anyone could have those kinds of opinions (the ones depicted in the dark or insensitive jokes) laughable in their own right. With that said, I would like to preface again that we do NOT make these jokes around people we don't know have the same sense of humor, because we know how uncomfortable it can makes people who have a more normal sense of humor, so we go out of our way to only make those jokes when we know we are with other people who know we are in no way serious about what jokes we make, and make them only in good fun, not because we're "uneducated" or "Unenlightened" or just straight up assholes.

You call them by what you see is their gender like everyone does and has done throughout time. You can think you are a woman when you are biologically a man but if I see a dude I say he. You cannot control the discussion of you and impose a rule to people in that they have to assume or ask. You can be trans but biologically you are either a man or a woman. HE or SHE

Next time someone calls me a dick I'm going to say 'Actually penises are life bringers and therefore they are good to the world.' Except I won't, because this is hyperbole and I'm an adult that understands that language evolves different meanings over time. I don't call someone a pussy and go 'Yes! You exactly resemble the female reproduction organ!' I say it because the meaning that word has taken on is drastically different to its root in the female anatomy.

Aside from that yeah that guy kind of sounded like a dick.

    • holidayhippie11 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

@donut_squad_2 Truth is that which corresponds to reality. It need not be proven, is not subject to interpretation and there are no "versions" of truth. Truth is absolute.

    • juneid FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Truth is definitely not absolute. It is relative and we have been molded into what we believe to be true. For example the majority of people believe the statement "murder is bad and noone should do it" but there are some people that love killing and think it is good. We can't in any way say which one is absolutely right but according to law, the cultures and civilisations before us and how it shaped our being, we find it horrifying and think it is wrong. Terrorists truly believe in the shit they are doing just like we believe wholeheartedly that they are crazy and should be stopped.

    • holidayhippie11 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

@juneid Truth is only relative inasmuch as reality is relative; which is to say, not at all.

Yes, terrorists believe that murder is good and noble, but that is not truth. A lie believed by millions is still a lie. The greatest minds of the world once believed the earth was flat and that earth was the center of the universe. Was that truth just because that's what everyone believed to be true? Of course not.

Your perception of truth is shaped by your worldview. My worldview says that murder is wrong, however if someone comes into my home to harm my family, I will defend them to the best of my ability. That might mean calling the police and yelling, or it might mean using my guns. Is that murder? I don't believe so, but Im know others whose worldview says that it is. Perception of reality does not change reality, it just changes how you or I see it.

Now, who knows whether on any given topic that I have the truth, you have the truth, or we're both wrong? That's the $64 question as it were, and men have spent their lives in search of "truth" for millennia.

Bottom line is, your perception of something doesn't change it, so again, truth is absolute.

    • juneid FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

@holidayhippie11 The murder argument doesn't have a scenario which is right and one which is wrong. For that you would have to have a record of the absolute truth somehow (some people decide its in the bible, others simply the law although there is an argument on how the bible and religions influenced the development of the human psyche and way of thinking over thousands of years and thus the law) which you can relate the murder argument back to and finally conjure that yes indeed murder is bad.

Also, "the perception of reality doesn't change reality" statement is paradoxical as the only way to know reality has not changed is to perceive it but you already have a perception of it that you say is not the 'actual' reality. So you would not know reality has not changed because you perceive it a certain way. You can make an argument that everyone governs their own reality and sets their own standard for truth that is in accord with their views but to say is there is absolute truth in the universe doesn't make sense. You know things only because you have sensed them with the tools you have. There is no way of saying a colour blind person is actually the one seeing the real colours and everyone else is the real colour blinds. There is no answer to who is right or wrong in their truth arguments as there is no way to prove either is wrong. My point is everyone has their own truth to which they believe in, and it doesn't have to be accordance with observations. But the majority of people will be in accordance or swayed by the observations of nature and revise their truths because for the most part they all perceive it the same way and can understand how those conclusions were made i.e Flat Earth to Almost Spherical Earth. To believe something is true is to have believed in something else just as truly before and found out it was wrong and it may well be a cycle.

I can see where the Anon is coming from to an extent. I do think that some people are too sensitive at times. An example is like, that one girl who filmed her Uber driver and she was yelling at him for having a hula dancer figure on his dash. She was saying he was culturally appropriating Hawaiians, that it’s triggering, etc.

as someone who was born and raised in Hawaii, that’s...completely wrong. The lady was being overly sensitive and making an issue where there was none.

Native Hawaiians have even spoken up and said how much of an idiot that lady was. We don’t want people like that representing native hawaiian rights because in their feeble and lame attempt at trying to “help,” it just ends up belttling the actual problems real Native Hawaiians are facing.

Hawaii survives off of tourism, which includes having people buy those hula dancer doll things. We’ve made Obama hula dancing dolls to sell for crying out loud.

That’s just the first example that I could think of, but things like that, where a person who had no connection with the topic, goes defensive “on behalf” of a certain subgroup.

That might be different than Anon’s situation, though. But to say that no one is ever overly sensitively is...not entirely correct.

Being a dick head and not being politically correct is a whole different issue, but "being a pussy" is not in fact related a vagina. Its a shortened for of the word pusillanimous, or a person without courage. But, through time people have assimilated the term with the vagina so the confusion is understandable.
