I went to see Dead-pool this last weekend and overall it was funny. Although, not as funny as when I saw a little child about four years old walk into the movie theater and have not only the movie theater not tell the adult that was with the child that it was an R-Rated movie. The adult that was with them had clearly not read why the movie was rated R. The child left about thirty minutes into the movie. After the child left and the strippers showed up I wanted to laugh so hard. Actually, I did laugh hard and told my family who went to see the movie with me. They all looked shocked. The moral of the story is that people should read why a movie is rated. It is a good movie.

With the way they talked about Deadpool (I haven't seen yet) kinda reminds me why so many people liked One Punch man as well. The way that Saitama doesn't push the plot forward but the people around him does.

I'm not sure how much I like Will Smith being in Suicide Squad but I guess we'll see.

Excited to see another take on Joker though.

To James' point about other character's pushing the plot forward, there is literally a line in Deadpool where the bartender says, "You should go talk to that guy, might further the plot." If they can keep the same core team around for the sequel I have extremely high hopes for the quality of the movie. These guys seem to really love the character and get what makes stories with him work.

My only worry is if the bigger budget will actually hamper the sequel. Reading interviews about the production for Deadpool, and the last minute $7-8 million budget slashing by Fox forcing them to make Carano's character from 3 people in to 1 and re-structuring the highway scene and the director saying that the limitations made the movie work when it shouldn't have. Give them double the budget and I would hope things don't spiral out of control, especially since Fox executives doesn't exactly have the best track record with meddling on anything outside of the Singer X-Men movies (Deadpool's singular existence as of now notwithstanding).

And with the mention of the Mr. Sinister plot developments in the Ultimate X-Men comics run, I am now having flashbacks of reading the other hilariously bad moments.. like the Nightcrawler/Dazzler stalker line.

I did like in Deadpool that it was a personal mission for the protagonist, instead of 'saving the entire world' trope of other superhero movies

I disagree with James , I think The Workshop and how they operated was explained fine as long as you were paying attention. My only issue with the movie was the ending was pretty cheesy and cliche, but if they make good use of Vanessa in the sequel I'll forgive it. I agree the villains were weak and their powers poorly explained, but in a way it's nice to have a comic book movie where less attention is payed to everyone's powers.

the 4th wall breaks were good but his style of 4th wall breaks were not supposed to be just lens spikes i feel he should do his escape the comic type 4th wall break, for example have a background on a green screen and he talks in front of it... am i making any sense?

the easiest way to have a long story arc with Deadpool is to do the comic where he falls in love with Lady Death and he's always chasing a love he can never have. ignoring the whole "Thanos made him immortal" part of it.

As a hardcore Deadpool nut, I basically understood what was going on more than the average person, so its hard to critically judge it. But as a movie for fans of Deadpool, it was fantastic... although, I do agree that the villains are weak (Ajax and Angel) They basically role reversed Deadpool and Ajax, originally Ajax was looking for Deadpool and killing of weapon X projects. Also, I really think Vanessa should have died, it would have lead into Deadpool become super multi personality Deadpool thats in the comics.

Edit: Just realised that Vanessa is Copycat, which could be cool in a future film

James is absolutely correct with Harley Quinn, at least in my experience. Her growth and eventual independence were where it really started. She got herself away from a bad relationship (depending on the version/timeline/writer), is unbelievably intelligent, can both compete against and collaborate with the men in her environment, be overtly sexy... She's easy to love.

Being a comic book fan, one of the things I think is amazing is the ability to pick and choose arcs and continuities to pay attention to. Because let's face it - there is WAY too much comic history to try and keep up with all of it.

It's funny that you guys discuss a movie for every one, when the one big factor that excludes every one from watching Deadpool is the level of inappropriate content in it. Deadpool may be well-rounded, but certainly is not made for the average movie-goer. Disney Pixar movies are movies for every one, and you can tell because of how amazingly successful they are. They also have a great formula: Creative environments and plots, child as well as intelligent humor, very emotionally gripping scenes, and overall no "morality gate" (meaning that people that don't like cussing, blood and gore, or sex can't watch it). The more morality gates you put on an ip, the less people it is likely to bring in. That's why characters like Deadpool are usually cult followings. The same could be said about the Funhaus channel, no offense as I am a big fan.

Well deadpool is on the top 20 list of highest opening weekends and all the movies in the top 20 aren't "kids" movies I disagree.

      http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/weekends/

Like Funhaus said the comic book movie loving audience is mid 20s now and they don't just want a kid friendly movie.

While you may be right (at 25:20) that it's possible the writers and directors didn't include a love story initially and the studio wanted them to include it, it should be said that Vanessa (also known as Copycat in the comics) is an important (and tragic) character in the early Deadpool comics and I was actually really happy that they included her, even if it was only her name and not the actual character (we'll see if they ever develop her further into what she is in the comics but I doubt it).

So while it's possible an exec had them put in a love story, as you said they integrated it really well. But I think it should also be said that they not only did it really well, but still kept it genuine and true to the comics by specifically including that character (even if in name only).

If you guys want a show that plays with super hero tropes, you guys should watch One Punch Man. It's a really good parody anime that has some really good story.

AAAAAAAAAAH! You did the thing! You did the thing where you forget an extremely important part of a movie yet chalk up your stupidity to the movies failings!

That "rock" wasn't just going to crush some small city in whogivesafuckistan. It was big enough and was accelerating fast enough to destroy the whole planet!

So there's a clear esclation. In Avengers New York City was getting destroyed and Loki wanted to CONQUER the world.

In Avengers 2 Ultron was going to destroy the world.

In Infinity War Thanos will...well...it escalates a lot.

They also reference in the movie that the reason they only show colossus and nega even though they show the mutants mansion is because they can't afford the rest of the cast for the film.

He says something like, "Why are there only two of you? Is it because the studio couldn't afford anyone else?"

    Or something along those lines.

I honestly feel like James Gunn's facebook post was a direct attack on Suicide Squad. Like the first trailer for it I thought was great. The second trailer which was zany moments to a rebelious song was just like UUUUUGH! They're trying to be Guardians GOD FUCKING DAMNIT!

I think with Harley Quinn, the reason why a lot of people attach to her is that she is a tragic character with a shitty situation which brings a lot more depth and interest in that character, more than Wonder woman or cat woman. She is a poster child for spouse abuse and even the cartoon show didn't hold back showing that which was rare being towards kids in some way (also for adults).
