So here is a theory I thought up about video games and story in this generation of games. The more a game looks like reality or puts an effort into making the game look realistic, there is, in most cases a narrative that the game tries to follow (Uncharted, Last of Us, etc.). Do you think that is what sets these games apart from games that clearly focus on their own style and have unique gameplay. Just something I thought of while listening so maybe it can help further the discussion on story in video games.

I think this is the first year I'm actually looking forward to E3. Granted, I didn't know about it until a few years ago, so maybe I'll hate it next year.

The tiny Battlefront discussion (about 14:05) renewed my angst toward that whole debacle. Many have made their peace before about how people complain that the new versions of games aren't as good, while Funhaus pointed out that nostalgia blinds those people. However, I think there is a group (including Funhaus, now) that will agree that Battlefront was by and large a cash-grab with no soul. And while that conversation already came and went, I think it's more relevant now that the dust has settled and we can actually see the game for what it is from a refreshed lens. Somehow, DICE took two successful franchises (Battlefront and Battlefield) and managed to distill these games into their worst elements. I can forgive certain gameplay aspects (the lack of space battles, for instance), but the inclusion of hero "tokens" that are found rather than earned is just one example of the many poor design choices present in the game. Others include (but are not limited to): vehicle tokens, no land vehicles, a general misuse of vehicular mechanics, a setting in which there are few heroes/villains to utilize, an "upgrade" system that manages to offer little progression, et cetera. The point being, DICE really missed the mark on what should have been an easy hit: make Battlefield, but give it Star Wars assets. Anyway, sorry to talk your...eyes off. Whatever. Kudos to anyone who read that rant. Just had to clear the air of that one. Carry on.

I still think it's a decent game, just not worth the price. Maybe with time I'll get $60 worth out of Fighter Squadron. I think its biggest fault is that it's the only console Star Wars game we've had this decade and Dice decided they could do pretty much anything with it.

What Lawrence said about Fighting being the most "pure" game genre out there as the gameplay is essentially perfect with very minor tweaks and additions to them every installment. I totally agree with him on that, but I would also say that both Racing and Sports games are like this as well or at least very close to it. How much have games like Mario Kart, Need For Speed, Forza, Gran Turismo, and EA Sports games changed over the years in terms of pure gameplay? Not a whole lot. Granted, Fighting games have a much larger competitive circuit surrounding them than Racing and Sports games do, but in terms of pure gameplay; I would say that is beside the point.

Just started watching this episode, I did not hear Joel or James laughing in the Schweddy Balls video, but I honestly thought I heard Bruce laughing.

that is literally the only thing i hate about the game overwatch. the randoms who are trying to coach other players and telling them what the teams need. it happened to me while i was playing with my cousins and when someone tried to tell us the change characters, i told them to fuck off and then they came back with that "we", me and everyone else, were gonna cost us the match. then i told them that if they did not like the configuration of the team then he should change. we were not losing. they then proceeded to leave the game and as soon as that happen we got someone who basically became the other hero we needed and we ended up winning the match. i dont understand people who play like this. like what is the point of yelling at people to change their hero when you can just easily do it yourself. THIS ISN'T SMITE! you can change your character after the initial pick

Not knowing what the hardware will be could be an excuse if it wasn't the fact that Ubisoft has done this for almost every reveal as as shown in this comparison. Don't get me wrong I played Watch Dogs, Far Cry 3 & 4, and R6 Siege and loved them but it still seems to be a bad habit they have and makes it really hard to get excited at their E3 reveals.

Just to comment on the issue of randos in overwatch, there is a discord server that has a bunch of rooms in it that is used to find a full team of six before going into the game, and guranteeing some level of communication. I believe it is called /r/Overwatch on discord.

There was a picture getting shared around the FunHaus subreddit about a week ago of the first Terminator movie box art, but instead of Arnold Schwarzenegger; it had Lawrence as the Terminator. I honestly thought it was the regular Terminator box art and I was a little confused and then I realized it was Lawrence. It was a really good photoshop.
