Dude Soup: Is Console Gaming DEAD? - LIVE #54

This podcast was filmed this week at RTX Australia! We somehow made it through the event only hitting one attendee in the head with a boomerang.

Does Adam equate being angry, condescending, and pretentious to being funny and/or right?

I have the exact same issue with the xbone controller, Dpad works but nothing else, all the time!! And why on earth does the bluray player need an update? Wanted to play a bluray and it refused! Since our net wasn't connected at the time I ended up having to update using my mobile data just to update 54mb.

Nintendo might find a way to bring back that "instant gaming" feel, I have a good feeling about the NX in that regard. Imagine a Just Cause 3 quality game packed into 128GB SD cards for quick load times coupled with cloud rendering. Flash memory has come a long way in read/write speeds.

Also ,Great episode, but I feel like Craig should have spent less time being on stage.

I didn't really understand the point of this episode of Dude Soup. Usually there is good discussion with valid points, but this time it honestly felt like grasping at straws with weak, subjective arguments. There were a few good points made, like how consoles and PCs are starting to blend into each other, but that was about it... I don't know, maybe just me :/

The Screw Attack guy was annoying. It seemed like he was just guessing as he talked and shouting things he heard from a shitty online forum

After a month of dipping my toe in their content I've decided Screw Attack are not my cup of tea. I hit an early road bump with their video, The Worst EVER: Sexy Chick, and Craig's reasoning for Poison (and her gender) being, "the most disgusting thing in the world." Since then I've given them a bash, but I feel they aren't for me.

My problem (and I really do mean "my", I know that I'm accountable for me) that I want to share is the big disparity between their content style and that of the rest of Rooster Teeth's on-screen personalities when there is the opportunity for a crossover show. I enjoy a dissenting voice. Screw Attack's just appears to be a contradictory combination of infantile and outdated. It's superficial and sometimes comes across as the dead-eyed, talking-for-the-sake-of-talking ranting of a drunk closing in on being thrown out of a dive bar nonsense.

paused like 2 minutes into this before continuing. Eurogamer is 100% wrong. Purely as a PC gamer, Solid state drive is a terrible option to go with the consoles (for now) due to the bottleneck in that they only use SATA II controllers. test and data show you would see very little difference in load times between a 7200RPM drive and a SATA II/III drive due to the limitations of sata in console. So if you want the BEST performance for your dollar with high capacity go with SATA III 7200RPM and lose little time across all games over the fastest SSDs on the market. IF consoles had a SATA III controller then it would be a different story.

Solid 7200 RPM drive low latency and high seek time and you'll be sitting about as good as you can get in consoles. Solid states wont get you much better, even if you consider texture streaming, Not much you can do about SATA II limitations.

Time to game is UP, i own both Intel 750 PCIe 1.2Tb and Samsung 950 pro M.2 Drives. Fast internet connections 25Mbps down and 2Mbps up is what now minimum for broadband and is decent for gaming. Set updates to run while you sleep. Other than updates FAST storage is here for PC, granted you have the money now we have to wait for the NVMe price to drop for the mainstream market. (CES had mushkin showing a SATA III 4TB SSD granted low IOPS count still far faster than HDDs and good for gaming and consoles if they had a SATA III controller)

This video shows the performance increase switching to SSD.

@Doctor_Funsies Thats over a stock 5400RPM drive, 8MB cache, crap seek time and probably with higher latency. That increase for an SSD is not worth the value of upgrading over decent 7200RPM drive in console gaming (at this time) as seen in this data collection. That SATA II controller in consoles just kills the performance advantage that SSDs hold over quality hard drives, its basic computer knowledge, SATA has its limitations SSDs shine on SATA III and PCIe.

You can find quite a bit of data collected on this.

Why are there so many people standing while there are seats available

    • MadDudeHorse

Because the front seats were VIP only.

    • Lylith FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

yes but there were seats all the way through the seating that were empty as well

The front black seats were only for VIPS to sit in, they also had a bunch of reserved seats for disabled that weren't always used
