Another good podcast but I wanted to tear out my eardrums constantly having the sound of sonic rings and all the other sounds competing with just the sound of them talking. Why not just have game sound down real low so its just something in the background?

I really love the discussions you guys have on these, so for me personally I would MUCH prefer if the focus could be more primarily on the conversation rather than the game. It felt like the constant reactions to what was going on in the game really took away from the podcast which was a shame

I think nostalgia can also work against media as well. For example, I recently watched the star wars original trilogy for the first time after hearing about how amazing and brilliant it was, especially from one of my mates who is a die hard fan, and I just thought they were okay, just okay. But god forbid you say that to a star wars fan, if you say it's anything other than amazing, then fuck you is the mentality from the star wars fan base.

I almost now hate it just to spite the people who love it and won't hear me out. And that's because they all watched it when they were kids, and it was magical and amazing or they watched it in the 70's when it was new and nothing like that had ever been seen before. But it really just doesn't do much for me now, I already knew the story going into it thanks to all the references and the family guy episodes (which I enjoyed more than watching the movies, might I add) so that may have ruined it for me a bit as well.

Anyway... what was I saying? Oh right, just rambling again XD

I agree with Bruce on his strict definitions of movies that are cash grabs. Maybe I'm just picky or edgy, but I find more and more that quantity is dwarfing quality. There are still movies that come out with a lot of thought put into them (Dunkirk, as Bruce said. Things like Moonlight and Manchester by the Sea are good as well, but those two are sort of the "classical" literature of the movie industry and not particularly accessible to the average moviegoer).

I think services like Netflix, while so convenient, and franchises like the Marvel Cinematic Universe have gotten us hooked on what's new as opposed to what's good, but at the same time, everything needs to be a franchise or a fifteen season show. I've heard a lot of bummed out viewers talking about the latest seasons of House of Cards and Game of Thrones just not holding up to the promise. I wonder how much of that is people just getting bored and looking for the next new thing and how much of it is the writers getting burned out by the demands of franchises and endless seasons.

As someone who just decided to try to monetize their hobby of writing, I find the storytelling market to be bloated. I remember in a podcast or post show that you guys discussed how Steam felt bloated. And YouTube. And Netflix. I think the music, movie, and games industries all feel that now, and it makes me wonder the systems we're using to decide what is worth our time/money are working.

So... I spent too much time on deviantArt and... I have a suggestion for Hard Netting. Is there somewhere to send it in?

I watched The Wizard of Oz about a month ago after not seeing it since I was a kid. Special Effects aside, the characters all talk the same way and state things too obviously, and scenes come and go with no consequence. The scene where they fall asleep in the poppy field is completely unnecessary. They're going to the Emerald City, the wicked witch stops them, the good witch helps them, the plot moves on in less than a minute and nobody mentions the scene ever again. And why are there only two roads going out of Munchkinland? While these things might've worked in the book and in the '30s, the movie just isn't up to modern screenplay standards. (But that doesn't make it a bad movie in any way. I spent an hour trying to figure out how they did the scene where Dorothy transitions from Sepia to color.)

I disagree with the assessment that Michael bay is a good film director in my own opinion. Almost every director/producer over the course of a long career will make bad movies, but when the majority of the films that you release are bad then I would call them a ‘bad’ director. Which isn’t to say that a bad director can’t make a good film, just like a good director can make terrible films.

However, all this being said Michael bay has had a very financially successful career, so I guess it’s up to the individual to decide whether their metric for a successful film is based on content or financial profitability.

I am sorry you contradict yourself so much in your comment it is hard to swallow. Here is my take on Michael Bay, He made Bad Boys, Bad Boys II, The Rock, Armageddon and Pain & Gain, all excellent films. He has also made the Transformers franchise, which are not bad films. They are of the same caliber as the Fast & Furious movies and a lot of people like both of those franchises (obviously considering how much money they made). He also made the recent TMNT movies, which I will admit are not stellar, but he is the only person who can get away with actually bringing the comic book/cartoon canon into live action.

You can say you do not like his films but you cannot really call him a bad director. His movies are well shot, he takes them seriously, no matter how ridiculous the subject matter, and I do not think another director could do what he does with the franchises he has been given. I think if anyone else had been given transformers, they would have made maybe 1 movie and it would have ended that whole thing, he is on movie #7. And if he had been given the Justice League franchise, I am almost positive he would have made a better film than Zack Snyder did with Batman V Superman (in my opinion).

I made it very clear that my it was my OPINION on him  as a director, i even put it in bold. if you have a different opinion thats great, art is subjective and i wouldn't expect nor want everyone to like and dislike the same things otherwise we would have no diversity in the films that are made.

And yes there are certainly elements of his film style that he does well, but again it comes down to relativity and subjectivity.

Sonic doesn't have what series like Final Fantasy and Persona have:

An ability to change the franchise due to an overhaul of story, characters, gameplay and design.
