Another interesting bit, Psalm 14 is titled, "The Fool Says, There is No God". I could see a connection with those floating people or the alien things. Just thought I would Share. Love the deep analysis.

I'm worried about Death Stranding in the idea that it could come out at a time when I no longer want it. I'm excited because Kojima makes amazing games. My biggest issue with MGS:V is that it didn't feel like it had the same passion behind it that Kojima always has in his games

I get what you mean with the comment about MGS:V. But you probably got that because Konami absolutely railed Kojima during the development of MGS:V. Let's be honest it wasn't the smoothest cycle now was it.

I'm holding out hope for Death Stranding as it looks and sounds like a great premise (even though I don't have a PS4, I may end up buying one just to play this).

Yeah, I now genuinely blame Konami for pretty much every issue I had with MGS:V lol

Hideo said something really interesting about what has inspired the gameplay:

"Kojima explained one of the game's main themes through a short story by Kōbō Abe, in which Abe says that the first tool created by humans was a stick, meant as protection by putting a distance between oneself and "bad things", and that the second tool was a rope, which is used to secure things one finds important. Kojima compared the main "tools" in action games – punching, shooting and kicking – to sticks, and said that in Death Stranding he wants people to communicate through the game equivalent of ropes."

It would be interesting to hear if Funhaus thinks that he will pull that off.

I'm looking forward to this game for similar reasons Lawrence mentioned about new games lacking innovation. Lately new titles (especially AAA western ones) feel like they were developed by a publisher exec following a spread sheet of low risks. No chances are really being taken, weird ideas are being left to indie devs and story telling is watered down to not distract from DLC and micro transactions.  I feel like I've been playing the same game for years now with a few exceptions.

Mads Mikkelsen is for sure the figure that floats down onto the vehicle in the new trailer.

In the second trailer he commands a squad of skeletons and uses a hand signal before Del Toro is attacked. In the new trailer he wears a skull mask and uses the same hand signal before the baby carrier is attacked much like Del Toro. This is probably later in the game as his gear and abilities have improved.

Finally I think Norman wakes up in the same place following the giant being explosion and under water scene. Because according to Kojima himself "In a normal game, if a bomb goes off and kills the player, they usually restart the game sometime before that bomb went off, so now the player has a chance to avoid it. In Death Stranding, you would return to the world following the explosion that killed you. It happened, there's no changing that, and now the story must progress.". I believe that is why Norman sheds a tear when he sees the crater. That or it has something to do with the fact that his necklace has 6 components with 5 human figures floating in the sky after one has been consumed and him left standing alone.

Kinda with the problems with metal gear V - The lack of facilities that are mission specific: Like what ground zeros was. which had a result of when doing the optional quests in mgs V, is that you go to the mission areas by accident and the surprising cool aesthetics (bar like 2 missions where you get access to them). and It was just outposts of guards vs the pre planned strategic locations and paths they'd take.

Everything in the trailer for MGS V was in the "second act" which is essentially post game, but also isn't, and to access this you had to do 'Challenge modes' of already completed missions and the challenge mode is labelled as a new mission. With the trailer mission (I never actually played it because of not wanting to replay the game with challenges) being the most thought out and emotionally provoking, which arguably most people wouldn't reach.

Then comes the actual good story telling which was hidden behind secret objective in secondary missions that would of been worth real missions such as Quiet going away because she knows she can't stay with snake due to real love and when snake goes to find her and then almost dies by getting bit by a venomous snake *dun dun tisk*, with the only way to save him, Quiet has to talks, which would kill her because she has the English speaking parasite.

That completely optional and hidden mission had more story and heart than most of the 'first act' (which is essentially the whole game kind of)

And then there is the fact that venom simply doesn't talk and when he does, along with all the actual story is in the medium of cassette tapes and not cutscenes! I know MGS 4 got flack for being a movie with some gameplay, but in V you just sat there on mother base doing nothing but walk in circles waiting for the cassette story to play out before starting another mission.

It has a basically empty world besides outposts which after a couple hours get tedious with tremendous gameplay but more story in the hidden missions that, if you just did the main story you would miss. a Clearly unfinished game which was a shame, because is had such potential in an awesome engine. With filler missions as well.

I kind of lost respect for the high gaming profile awards and kojima, when it won so many awards, especially best voice performance, when snake had fuck all to say during then whole game. Kojima got awards and clout for his ideas on what the game could of been, but not what it was. And the industry shaming konami but universally loved kojima despite the two being likely as bad as each other. (minus the un ethical treatment of konami's staff).

At 19:00, I wonder if the guy threw the baby away because he didn't want to come back to life after he was captured.

Edit: If it's tied to a respawn mechanic.

I think I figured out why the crabs keep popping up!

So we've seen the motif of "2 worlds" kind of hinted at here and there, and water/the ocean seems to be the biggest example of this motif.  Makes sense, because the two worlds of land and sea are fundamentally different, and inhospitable to those that don't belong there.  We've also seen hints of a link between worlds, with a rift opening up allowing the creatures from one world to invade another.

Well, the interesting thing about crabs is that many of them live on both land and underwater!  So if the ocean is a metaphor for the "alien world", then the crabs are like the "chosen ones" who can inhabit both our world and the next.  Perhaps this is a hint that the main character could be one of the chosen ones, unique in his ability to move between worlds?

Not sure what to make of the multitude of dead crabs shown in the trailers...

Interesting. My own thought about the crabs was that Lovecraftian Cosmic Horror has a persisting usage of underwater creatures, usually squids or octopus but also plain old fish in Innsmouth, as well as a theme of the deep. I feel like Kojima chose to emphasize crabs because they tie into his mechanic of a baby growing old inside of it's dying clone, like a hermit crab moving to a bigger shell. Crabs also molt, literally breaking through the shell of their body, and they happen to be the freakiest aquatic organism because they're giant armored spiders with claws.

I'm on my second play through as I watch this video and I love it! But to be fair it was a slow start. I'd recommend (because you can't trade it in) just powering through until you find something you like. Put a podcast on in the background or something.

Just (finally) finished MGS4, and I am perfectly okay with ending my time with the series there. I love it, probably my favorite series, but everything I saw (and the internal drama that came about during/after it's creation and release) about 5 just didn't interest me. I'm absolutely hyped for Death Stranding though - Kojima doing something that he's actually excited for is a great thing.

The entire point of the twist at the end of Phantom Pain is that you're playing imposter Big Boss because the real Big Boss is still an international target that needed to be able to secretly create Outer Heaven. When you finish the game you played your part in the plan and Outer Heaven gets started so I don't see Adam's point about it not leading into MSX Metal Gear because that's literally exactly what it does regardless of it really being a good twist or not. It was obviously unnecessary but you're playing a game made by a man that made an antagonist who shoots bees who's name is "The Pain" Kojima's middle name is unnecessary.

Exactly, James even kind of explained that to Adam and he still didn't get it. Me thinks Adam needs to play it again or read the wiki. PP was a great game for me and really not hard to follow, I think most gamer's are just used to watered down garbage that don't require much thought or attention span.
