So here is my train of thought... I really want new Zelda, but $300 just to have the thing to then go buy the 1 game for probably $60 to put in the $300 thing is kinda crazy. Plus I am in the same boat as Bruce, where I really want to play with the device just to feel those controls. Also, you know Nintendo will be dropping "Special Edition" switches with games, like Zelda and Pokemon and Mario. So.. I'll probably wait until the end of the year but will eventually get it, even if it ends up only playing 2 or 3 games it's entire life. Unless of course it gets homebrew like the Wii and the PSP, then I'll be getting one a little sooner.

And I hope to fuck they have the online (whatever the shit thing is going to do) working by the time I buy one.

I'm not getting a Switch until I can try it at a friend's house and then convince my parents to buy it for me for Christmas.

I have always thought of myself as a gamer, but I've come to realize that I haven't played/remember playing as many games that everyone else has come to love aka Zelda. I only had a Playstation growing up, so I feel like i've missed out on playing so many other amazing games. If I wasnt a broke ass college student, I would probably dish out the money for this to finally have that Zelda experience.

I'm getting a Switch at launch partially because of Zelda, partially because I know I'll get my money's worth out of it eventually, and partially because Nintendo is really the only true innovator within the gaming industry and I want to support that.

I'm getting a switch, initially for Zelda, and eventually for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 so far. Of all the gimmicks Nintendo's thrown at us for the last decade, portable/console hybrid is finally one that I can really get behind. There may be a bunch of trade-offs that people love to point out, but when it's all said and done, it's actually a really impressive piece of technology.

Lawrence's "Battery packs in my ass" nearly made coffee go everywhere.  That was an image I was not asking for early in the morning.

Also James's comment about space and realizing you can't be into something, totally been there/am there now.  Is it bad that that's part of the reason I'm looking to buy a house rather than rent?

I already preordered the Switch because I really like the idea of the mobile console and at my point in life, it fits me a lot better than a PS4 or the One. Sure there isn't much at the beginning in terms of games but that's nearly every modern console/hardware launch these days. I already have a WiiU but I will get Zelda on the Switch. In time, the games will be there along with cheaper third party accessories so I won't let that annoy me.

I kept hearing how people thought releasing the Switch on March is a dumb idea and should have waited until the end of the year. But I feel like releasing it in March is better than waiting until the holidays because people who will have the Switch can say it's a good purchase and the library of games for the Switch will be greater compared to at launch.

I want Nintendo to succeed because without them, we would have two identical consoles that are separated by exclusives and minor differences in tech. Neither Sony or Microsoft aren't going to try to go outside of the box like Nintendo does and just produce the same console but with more powerful tech. Also Nintendo in general have stuff that works nearly all the time compared to every other gaming platform out there.

I absolutely with Bruce about mobile gaming because I don't really play games on my phone and prefer a controller instead of a touchscreen only.

I'm pretty sure the original PSP had ad-hoc wi-fi mode. Man, was that a great console. It was sort of big and the battery life was only 3-4 hours, but that screen was huge and beautiful and some of the games were really awesome.

My problem with the switch is that it seems like a worse version of PSP/PSV. It's slightly more powerful than PSV, but it's far less portable and it's still more expensive than the 'really expensive' PSV. I really wish Sony weren't idiots and they actually supported their mobile platforms, and really tried to see them through. I like the idea of a miniature PS3/4 that you can take anywhere and Switch is not it.

Didn't read all the comments but if they allow some N64 games to be played, such as Golden Eye 007, would more people want to buy this? I know there were a lot of fun games on that Nintendo system, in my opinion.

I'll end up getting the switch if the launch goes well, seems like the most upgraded form of niche mobile gaming since the DS was big. I'm going to wait it out for the inevitable issues all consoles end up having but for the use expected of the switch the price point is fair, even if the peripherals are overpriced (but that's the nintendo business model).

ive said this once and ill say it again, The fact that the dock cost so much is pure genius. think about it a rather expensive "Portable" console meaning college kids are gonna go on the bus to commute and get it stolen by dens of thieves... with one caveat! they must buy a dock for it! so they steal the console but still need to throw in another 90 dollars to charge the thing. they are counting on thieves taking it and giving them even more profits! pure genius!

Also When you mentioned that you loose the games im pretty sure you already knew this but you dont loose them per say as you don't have access to them until you resubscribe.

I'm currently not looking to get a switch. I haven't played a nintendo console in years and generally don't like Mario games, so the only thing attractive to me is Zelda or a potential Pokemon game. Those are the only Nintendo properties I'm really invested in. That said, I'll try to find time to play it at RTX Sydney so maybe my opinion will change then. Right now, however, $300 US, which is close to $400 AU, is just a bit too steep for a console that can play 1 game I want, and maybe 2 down the track. I'm very curious to see how it all works out and how it sells, though.

If I had kids the switch would be a no brainer to buy for me. 1 2 switch seems like a way to turn the switch into a toy that you run around the house playing cops and robbers with instead of pretend gun fingers also my aunt recently bought an older tablet for here 5 year old son because he kept borrowing hers still he only plays mobile games and Minecraft pocket addition and bugs his older brother when he wants to play big console games. with this he could play Zelda and other big AAA games as well as Minecraft and have a toy to run around the house with his dad or siblings sure you could say a kid might get board playing with the same toy but a free game every month from Nintendo's back catalog would keep his attention plus if they ever have to go out shopping and he or any kid wants to keep playing and not be board in the store he can do so. I think Nintendo is got a great idea that could beat or match the ps4 sales

The USB C port is on the bottom, which means you can't charge it through a power brick while in kickstand configuration, further complicating the airplane scenario.  Also the headphone jack is on the top, so in handheld you would need to run a headphone cord under the device, which may cause you to pull your earbuds out accidentally from time to time.

I only noticed these things because Nintendo is traditionally so smart with this kind of thing.

I did pre-order the Switch so I can play the new Zelda, but I'm a bit disappointed in the lack of launch titles. I agree, 1-2 Switch should've been a pack-in game similar to how Wii Sports or Nintendoland was for the Wii/Wii U. Here's hoping developers will actually support the console this time.

Great pod again! I'll probably wait for better Switch bundles/games and your opinions on it before I buy it. Zelda does look incredible though. Considering just selling my PS4, upgrading my PC, and getting a Switch. The PS4 can't do anything that a PC can't, while the Switch does things a PC can't.

So I have never owned a Nintendo console, other than Gameboy Color, 3DS, and I got them just for Pokemon. The only Zelda game I have ever played was Twilight Princess, and I only played for a few hours. I am greatly looking forward to the new Zelda, and the fact that I can take it with me is going to be so nice.

I am now old enough that I have to Adult and I don't have time to sit down and play games at home. But I do have to wonder if it will be worth the price point. There isn't much in terms of titles at release and I'm not sure if it would be worth that price just for a Zelda machine. I'll just wait a bit and see what all comes out.

As a college student money is scarce, so there's a million things I want (VR, a PC, Switch, etc.) but right now I really can only justify taking the time to save up money for one pricey item. So the one I pick better blow me away and be better than all the other things I could be saving up for.

That's where I'm at with the Switch. It's a really cool idea and I want it really bad, but it seems like right now that it isn't fully realized or not at it's full potential. So if I have to choose one thing to save up for I would rather pick an item that has a ton of cool games/experiences to delve into on day one. Maybe in a year when more questions are answered regarding the online services, Mario has been released, etc...then the Switch will be more of a draw for me. But for me right now it's in the want column and not the need column.

personally, i feel like i'm in the middle of being both excited and unenthused about the switch. i'm 24 and i've owned many nintendo products and some of my favorite games are nintendo licensed (mostly pokemon, which is upsetting to know that they didn't even mention it during the press/game releases).

the wii was pretty lackluster after the hype of wii sports wore off and i almost never heard good things about the wii u, so i never got it. i was really, really excited for the switch because of its portability, but the lack of launch titles is glaringly obvious. for people like elyse, it's absolutely worth it to buy it launch day because that zelda game looks fantastic. but delaying mario until the holidays is both incredibly smart and annoying. i feel like nintendo and mario are synonymous and if you're going to make a huge deal about this product, you need people to be more excited for it right now instead of in 9 months. yes, zelda is a huge hit, but i think for a lot of people, they'd be more likely to buy it if odyssey came with it. i think they assume they'll make even more money during christmas, but the hype could wear off and it may not be worth it at that point

they're still trying to hit both new and nostalgic at the same time with this release but i don't think they have it just yet

(not speaking for the collective people in my age group, this is just how i feel)

Pre-ordered. I'm ok with having Zelda as the only game for a little while.  That alone is worth it(to me).  Zelda, Xenoblade 2 and Mario sold me on buying it, so far anyway.  If you don't have the money and aren't a HUGE Zelda fan then you might as well wait a bit for more games to come out.  Hoping it will be backwards compatible for gamecube and N64 games.
