The Avocado Toast Guy™ is the reason Millennials feel like no one understands us.

So if Burnie's in LA for "a few months," where's he gonna live when he moves back? For that matter, where is Ashley gonna live? Without Burnie to glue them together, is Ashley not gonna see Teddy and JD for several months? Why didn't Burnie and Ashley get married before he moved? Why do I care so much about the Burnses' personal lives?

But seriously where is Ashley gonna live?

I imagine she's living at the house they Burnie was before he moved. He's definitely got enough money to have a house in Austin and LA.

      Edit: I no listen good.

I don't see the point for me getting a house. I don't want to deal with the upkeep that I most likely can't afford to do. I don't need all that space for myself. I managed to find places where I don't have to pay for almost all the utilities. I just pay for internet at my current place along with rent. I'm perfectly satisfy with it. I probably get a house if I start a family but until then, I have no need to do so.

The funny thing though is my brother is now on house number three within the last four years but he has a family though.

I mean, the point is that the money you pay per month for a mortgage isn't an expense. You don't lose that money. You can take loans out against your equity as well as other things.

That being said, in major cities the cost of a house is insane. In smaller towns where you can get a 3-4 bedroom for $100k-$200k, it's a no brainer.

I feel like Hard Nettin'™ has strayed away from the original idea. I thought it was about celebrating weird internet communities, but now it's just "look at that weird thing I found made by one person." Although, they hinted at the contender for next week, which seems like it'll bring it back. Maybe?

I remember seeing people say to the people bitching (not 100% of what it was but a sum up): "Do you know the company Fullscreen?" -"No." "Have you seen anything that Fullscreen has done?" -"No." "Then stop bitching." -"But they're probably corporate assholes!" JAMES, in Red Dead Redemption, you could HOLD DOWN the run button and your horse would match the speed of NPCs. That was actually a thing. The worst part is that the section of the game you're watching is EXACTLY WHEN the game teaches you that mechanic.

When they were talking about SNL, the Chris Farley bit isn't really that funny (Chris Farley's personality carries the sketch) and is also kinda racist. They did a similar thing with Tom Hanks last year where he was a Trump supporter on black jeopardy and it was much more tasteful and way funnier.

Not really on topic but  60 minutes is such terrible news program considering it's "national" news. It's like what media portrays American local news to be just an hour of poorly written fluff pieces that have no real impact or meaning to anyone.

Just my little rant of built up annoyance from listening to people complaining at me for not "keeping up with events" because I don't watch traditional broadcasted news, but instead wasting my time looking online.

Ah yes! A funny Dude Soup! FunHaus is my favorite RT channel, but I usually steer clear of Dude Soup because 90% of them are just the guys bitching about their (completely valid) problems dealing with the internet. I understand how annoying these things might be, but I pay (FIRST) to be entertained, not listen to the guys complain about how their fans think they are their friends. It's usually too much of a circle jerk, having guests seems to eliminate the wet cookie factor.

Another important point is that when people bring up how much millennials are spending on 'experiences', you have to consider that the alternative is saving...for what? Housing is just not affordable, so what are we saving for, a new car? Great furnishings and entertainment suites for our temporary residences? Maybe everyone is supposed to be an entrepreneur, and put all their savings into their business ideas so that everyone is catching the next big trend? Or is the generation that was reaching adulthood in the midst of the global financial crisis supposed to be saving their money to create the same investment portfolios that we saw crash because of the same inflating housing bubbles we're being told are normal?

The reality of the situation is; what are we supposed to do with that money other than just sit on it? We're currently the ones footing the bill for the people who are being helped by the government to create stable investment portfolios, and in return we're supposed to just 'save' because spending money is apparently a bad thing when faced with daunting prospects for anything longer term than a couple of years away.

Also I'd like to say: Welcome, America, to the craze that is the avocado argument. This isn't one guy, its a talking point that has been referenced almost exclusively by the absurdly rich for something like 3 years now. Somebody will say it every 3 or 4 months it seems.

The millennial travel comment is interesting. I recently got down on myself seeing a bunch of people I knew on facebook who were traveling. I do want to have those experiences but I'm also saving up to get a nice place I own and I've saved up more than most people my age, which is gunna be necessary when Chinese conglomerates are buying up all the land in Toronto.

  • harryopp FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

The avocado toast thing(smashed avo is the common parlance down here) was originally from a murdoch columnist who the guy on 60 minutes was referencing. but he also got a 50k inheritance from his dad which he used as a deposit on his first house, the point millenial australians were complaining about was that house prices have gone up 30% in five years and wage growth is at 10% in the same time period, along with cutting penalty rates and decreasing the tax threshold for repaying student debt sot the average 20-25 year old has seen a decrease in wage and house prices are expected to grow by another 5-7% this year.

there's also an issue with foreign ownership where chinese property investors are flipping houses and paying deposits in cash which is more appealing for obvious reasons. so it's pretty hard to buy a house in australia at the moment

    • AusKarMa FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Thats because people only want to buy 20 mins from the CBD. Of course house prices are going up there, the demand is far far greater then the supply. Also a 50K inheritance isn't that much. My friend is 20 odd and already owns a house because growing up all he did was save his money.

    • Icarus-Rising FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Not really Chinese investors, it's domestic investors using a combination of negative gearing and capital gains concessions to reduce their taxes.

@AusKarMa the 20 mins from the CBD thing is bullshit, suburbs over an hour and a half away from Melbourne have been having 15-20% rises per year. Millennial also spend the least amount of money on discretionary items than any other generation, now or at the same points in older generations lives.

It's a shitshow and it's cool your friend has a house but it doesn't negate that we are in the middle of a massive property bubble that makes housing extremely unaffordable for the majority of people

I love hearing about the new downfall of RT, it seems like there is a new one on the subreddit or the RT forums all the time. My favorite was back when Geoff left the RT podcast to focus on growing AH right after Griffon went to become the world's leading chainsaw artist, there was some guy on the RT site who was spinning a tale of infidelity centered around the production of immersion. Burnie, the interloper, had caused a rift in their relationship and it was going to be the downfall of all RT. Then the acquisition by fullscreen was the downfall of RT because of rampant commercialism. Then the RWBY letter was the downfall of RT because of reasons. Its like the fans who cliam love RT no matter what don't want it to grow beyond what they already enjoy because that will somehow lead to financial ruin.

But in all seriousness: Suptic is the downfall of RT.

My friends and I prefer to spend money on experiences as a direct result of being raised by a generation that didn't. One thing my parents, grandparents, and so many other people from older generations than I have continuously said throughout their lives is that they wish they'd done/experienced more. I think my generation has taken that to heart in very big ways, and in that sense, we embrace life's impermanence and shoot for experiences over stability. I think many of us see the benefits of those sorts of things, but are also at an age where those benefits are not as necessary. For instance, my sister settled down quickly and is already in her career with a house and fiancee in her mid 20's. I'm meandering through college with a focus more on finding myself and my passions, and just generally trying to broaden my horizons. Neither approach is wrong (as was discussed in the video) but I do think that part of the reason people in my generation are bucking some of these trends is directly a result of being raised by the generations who set those trends.
