Aw shit man, I was really getting worked up about the 'is lootbox gambling' shit in my head, having an imaginary argument, and then that comment came up. I really don't care about lootboxes and gambling anymore :(

Thanks for sharing, Eric. There's really nothing a stranger on the internet can say to help, but I hope you're doing okay.

The thing I see going wrong with AI(in the future and now) is the machine not knowing when to stop.

I have a paper clip example for the future of AI. Let's say someone creates a machine with only one job. The job is to create as many paper clips as it can. The machine would use all the metal available in the factory that it is housed in, but what happens when there is no metal left? Would it start to take metal from light-posts and cars outside? What is to stop the machine from taking the iron out of human's bodies?...

Obviously this example is VERY extreme, but this really does apply today for YouTube. Just like the paper clip machine, there is no human monitoring. Who is to stop the machine/ai from doing something it shouldn't or going to far? AI doesn't have emotion... yet.

James is pretty spot on about humans, a viewpoint I whole heatedly agree with even though its mostly a self serving moot point. People get rubbed the wrong way by it because they take it as an attack on them or the people they know and love. People are capable of not being garbage but drive anywhere or go into any public restroom and its super easy to see which natural behaviors and attitudes humans prefer by default. Which is essentially "You're not me, so I don't care" unless a specific set of circumstances force or motivate them to not be garbage.

A fine example of garbage humans is people driving multi-ton death machines that easily and frequently end the hopes, dreams, futures of people and destroy their family's lives forever. All easily avoidable on a large scale simply by people checking their blind spot, not drinking and driving, use the turn signal, don't speed in the rain etc. Even if someone isn't dead or injured its still a giant financial issue created by narcissism and not so much human error.

Again it's a moot point, nobody ever sees themselves as a villain and if they do it's pretty rare they do anything about it. Agent K once said "A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it".

The talk about their advice being just that, advice, and not a professional psychologist help reminded me of a Bob and Tom bit: "the Law Minute w/ Jack Thomas" which ends with, "the preceding has been a joke, not legal advice. Learn to know the difference."

Eric Pavlik, saying "sorry for your loss" probably doesn't help at all at the moment, so I'm just glad to hear that Funhaus was able to provide some relief for you and Aubry when it was needed.  It's good to reach out like you did, and I hope you're finding joy and happiness in your life, as well as through your interactions with the Rooster Teeth/Funhaus community.  We may be a protective, tight-knit community, but we can also use those qualities right now to help you if you ever need that.  Love to you, Eric.

Lol, listening to James' talk about the payout "If X is greater than Y", reminds me of Fight Club.. "A new car built by my company leaves somewhere traveling at 60 mph. The rear differential locks up. The car crashes and burns with everyone trapped inside. Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field, A. Multiply by the probable rate of failure, B. Multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C.  ABC=X, if X is less than the cost of the recall, we don't do one."

It's the way all business works,

RT community is worse than Youtube when it comes to unpopular opinions, I see a ton of comments containing valid, maturely put criticism being downvoted as hell by the community. Thank god it has no meaning on the website, because I would be scared to share any thoughts on the videos otherwise. I think the only negative criticism I shared that wasn't downvoted was about the video player on the website, not a single other website is giving me so much trouble to watch content for which I'm paying.

With the sexuality comment I was really pleased to hear what you guys had to say, like just how positive you were (not that i was expecting anything negative)
As someone in Australia whose country decided a postal vote would be the way to go to decide whether or not people like myself will be ever be able to marry the ones we love legally in our own country it was really encouraging to hear the things that you guys said. You guys are always here for the tough times and i thank you for that

Have to write this here on the post show too as it was brought up more here...I really dislike Jame's attitude towards the human race. Yes there are terrible people out there and terrible things have happened and will happen but there's a lot more good out there than bad, it's just the bad stuff imprints on you and it's easier to remember. I could have 5 strangers hold open the door and think nothing of it and then 1 person doesn't hold the door open for me and it slams in my face, I'm obviously going to remember that one bad guy over the other 5 nice guys way more. Anyway as James can influence a lot of teenagers and maybe even younger I feel he should be a little less harsh on the awl human's we're not that bad  benson

someone's taking this too personally.... and I have to agree with James; you read enough history and have enough real world experience, you'll start to see that most human beings (including I) won't contribute much to society, just the reality we have to live with; and there is inherently shitty things we do that we're complete hypocrites about that some people acknowledge or ignore

you don't have to get offended about a comedically flippant comment unless you're really insecure; just be the best person you can be

    • KeithEire FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Insecure..no. I'm not quite sure where you got that from. In terms of contributing to society I never really touched on that maybe you should read my comment again. My main point was that people aren't shitty and that the bad things people do will stick in our head more than the good. I was more in disagreement than offended. You can disagree strongly with someone without be offended, I think you need to read what I said and not what you think I mean, which is extremely hard when it comes to text comments as you can't get the tone of someone from text so I understand if you misunderstood some of what I wrote or maybe I should have wrote it slightly differently. I do agree people will look out for themselves because it's basic survival but we also look out for others. It's a tough topic and one that could be talked about in great detail.

I really dislike your attitude towards the human race. Humans are an inherently selfish species. Yes, we are a social species, but we always have our personal interests/self-preservation in mind. Call me cynical, but humans only started "being nice"  to each other to improve their social standing, hence allowing themselves to further reap the rewards of society. Families exist due to a primal urge to further our imprint upon the world by spreading our genetic identity as far as possible.

If you want proof that the majority of the Funhaus audience is shitty, look no further than their YouTube comment section.

KM3R, you make a good point with the 'holding the door open' analogy, however, your reasoning also supports the argument on the other hand; that a polite interaction will stick out in a place where unpleasant interactions are more common. It's almost as if people of the human race experience a wide range of social variables in their life.

rhn94, in reply to your point, i think it's worth considering whether or not being selfish is wholly 'bad' or not. Personally, i am aware of being selfish myself sometimes but, only to look after myself before others when it is necessary (obviously as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else).

Lastly, it's amusing that this reply thread is evidence toward the topic referring the comments section being defensive to a fault. c:

I don't think people are inherently "shitty," I think they're inherently flawed, damaged, and suffering.  I think it's a false dichotomy to choose between the failings of people and the achievements of people in order to pass judgement on humanity, good or bad.  People have emotional, physical, and psychological traumas and problems at a rate that is staggering if you really stop to think about it.  The miracle is that all these suffering people pick themselves up and get to work, so the lights stay on and the world keeps turning.  Of course there are people who succumb to their personal flaws, or to one corrupting influence or another, and these people are often the cause of suffering themselves.  Still, when you look honestly at the ratio of human challenges to our collective achievements, it becomes hard to be ungrateful for the everyday tiny struggles people everywhere make to at least try to carve out some small place of peace from the landscape of horrors and chaos we find ourselves in.

EDIT: ON SEEKING PROFESSIONAL HELP: If you are uninsured and/or broke, google "sliding-scale therapist" and your city or zip code.  Becoming a licensed clinical therapist requires thousands of hours of supervised training, which is often done at low-to-no cost to the patient.  These aren't just random people giving you advice either, they all have (at minimum) hundreds of hours of training already completed, and are under the supervision of a licensed professional.  Some fully licensed therapists take sliding scale patients.  "Sliding scale" simply means that you pay what you can afford, proportional to your income.  It's not uncommon for people to pay $20 per session, for example.

Also remember that therapy is about the relationship between you and your therapist as much as it is about any advice or guidance they may give you.  If anything about your therapist makes you uncomfortable, or you have a hard time opening up to them, let them know.  No matter how skilled a given therapist is, you'll have a hard time connecting to them if they look like someone who abused you, for example.  It's not a judgement on you or the therapist if the connection just isn't there, but also try to give it a reasonable amount of time to see if it is them making you uncomfortable, or the subjects you wish to discuss.  A good therapist will talk through what makes you uncomfortable and/or help you find a better fit with someone else.  If they give you ANY resistance to seeing someone else RUN, don't walk, away.  Also know that there are many different kinds of therapy, so I would suggest doing some research on what kinds of techniques appeal to you, and then finding someone who specializes in that area.

Sorry for the wall of text, this topic is close to my heart as therapy not only saved my life, but also greatly improved my quality of life.  All of the information above is important, but not enough people know it.

To the concept of characters/humans and their perspective on good/bad is very interesting. However, from a writing perspective, some of the most interesting characters are the ones who see what they are doing, and just don't care. Something like the Joker recognizing that he is the bad guy, but still acting as he chooses creates a very interesting dynamic for the story. All I'm saying is not all well written characters have to be the "good guy" of their own story. Sometimes it can be their recognition of evil that makes then fun.
