Random comment, and certainly depends on use:

The terms "female" or "male" are not inherently bad terms to use, they just aren't common in conversation for most people.  They're specific, and avoid any issues related to using other language to describe people of different sexes such as "girls/boys", "guys/gals", "men/women", etc.

In the military, its very common to use "female/male" when talking about anything that requires that sort of specificity - from identifying a particular person to distinguishing regulation guidelines.

If at any time those terms are used in commentary that is pejorative in nature, its not because those terms are included - its the other content and context of what is being said, as any other alternative term would work just the same to single out a particular sex.

Like most other things, judgement should be reserved for the context of written or spoken words, and not just words themselves that aren't fashionable (unless they're explicitly harmful words, of course).

With anon on the lack of want for any sort of physical intimacy. It's definitely a thing, and it can be frustrating trying to rectify your want of companionship and a non-appetite for "normal" interactions like sex. Even harder to explain. if, by chance, the anon is reading this and ever wants to chat, feel free to send me a message. Always happy to share and discuss and remember that we're not alone in the ways we feel. Poorly worded, but I hope the message gets itself across.

Lawrence talking about "calling out people on bad behavior before they realize it was bad" really struck a cord with me. Today I had a phone call with "internal investigations" at the place I work because someone accused me of "sexual misconduct". Essentially, I had been having conversations of a sexual nature at work. At the time I assumed it was just "guy talk" (which I do realize is no excuse) with guys around my age who seemed to be enjoy the conversations, and at the very least, actively engaging in them. It wasn't until 2 months ago when one guy took me aside and said "you shouldn't be saying such and such" that I went "Oh, I didn't realize that was bad." Since then I've apologized to the people involved and tried not to have any conversations at work that aren't work related just to be safe. I still don't know where that line is, so I figure if I don't say anything, I can't hurt anyone.

Now, 2 months later, I'm on this call getting a laundry list of questions about stuff I said (and worse, the perception of what I meant based on something I said) and I had no idea it was coming or that what I said was upsetting anyone. My manager never took me aside and read me the riot act (which he has full right to do!). It was just the phone call out of the blue. The worst part is, the lady on the phone brought up a person who hasn't worked there in over a year. Now I'm left to assume that they left the company because of me. Where is their justice and opportunity for a safe work environment? It's been over a year! If I was on the other end, I'd want the person saying stuff I don't like to be talked to a lot sooner!

Now, I'm gonna have to accept my lumps, which I'm assuming is gonna be getting fired. I wish I had known so I could have apologized and stopped sooner.

Obviously this is only from my perspective, so take it with a grain of salt, but I really wish someone would have took me aside and told me what was inappropriate before I hurt people and before it got jumped up to internal investigation.

P.S. Boo Hoo Whoa Was Me. I know I said stuff I shouldn't have and I'm gonna have to accept the consequences.

Omar should really go for online dating if he's having difficulties meeting people outside his workspace/circles of friend. I work during the week in a women-free environment and study on weekends with similar people and online dating is outside of attending concerts the only place where I can meet new people.

Sure, people there focus on looks too much but if you do have something interesting to talk about (and Omar definitely has a ton of memories to share, like from RT events and so on, or working as a coast guard ) then it shouldn't be hard to find someone valuable. I don't get any sort of replies from 80-90% women I write to, but it's worth for those 10%, there are some jewels there (met someone cool 2 days ago and she lives very near me, fingers crossed).

But I need to say I'm 8 years younger than Omar and I live on a different continent so it might not work for him in the same way. Hopefully it works in a better way! Good luck. Staying alone is also fine, it has a ton of benefits

Weirdest thing to me was when a bank has this fancy app you can pay for things on your phone all these neat features, Then id noticed their staff are doing everything on Windows95 machines. one bank i was in i no joke saw some CMD like program, might've been something running on 95 but Jeezus.

I've also heard of (not sure if confirmed) that a lot of voting machines run 95 and have open USB ports easily accessible which is scary as fuck. Ideally you'd have people there to keep an eye on it but Dayum.

Everyone keeps on talking about way to make it easier to vote(all with their own flaws). There is never going to be a change because "politicians" don't want to make it easier to vote. They want it hard to vote and keep as few people voting as possible. It's a lot easier to control how 1 or 2 million people are going to vote compared to trying to control 30 million people. It's the same reason why voter fraud laws keep adding more hoops to vote even though there was something like 80 votes cast as a fraudulent. The more hoops you add the less people are going to jump through them. The people who are willing are old people or die hards to 1 party.

The thing about electronic voting is that it needs to be verifiable (you need to be able to tell that your vote was counted correctly, everyone must be able to assure that only eligable votes are counted) and anonymous (no one should be able to connect a vote to a person, assuring that you are free to vote in whatever manner you desire, regardless of what your overbearing husband says you should do and without fearing that you boss will fire you when he finds out how you voted).

But then there are still hurdles, like how to assure you are not forced to vote a certain way by someone monitoring you throughout the process.

Wow they read my comment, and when I spoke about the Machinima stock I didn't mean it to be an insult, it makes perfect sense to invest in a company you are working for, that was just a visceral reaction, of just thinking how that ended up was funny (In the words of the great Mr. Sark "the flaming crater where Respawn used to be").

I don't think the majority of young, voting-age Americans are into the Pauls or "funniest fart videos." I'm afraid Lawrence might have an unrealistically pessimistic view on today's young adults.

So to the dude whose wife has cut off any sort of physical contact, I hate to say it, there is a very high chance she is cheating on you. This is the exact same thing that happened to my best friend, and come to find out, she was banging at least three other guys while she "went to school".

Hey! If by the odd chance that the Anonymous guy who wrote in about your teeth being busted is reading this, I just wanted to tell you first off congrats on getting to where you are now. but I too have overcome an addiction, although mine wasn't drinking. your lucky you didn't die when you detoxed, but this inst about that its about your teeth. I destroyed my mouth, just absolutely ruined my good straight teeth. and it it hurts so bad just to look in the mirror. but my point is, you said your working now and that means there is the chance to save a little cash, it may take some but you can fix your mouth man. it is attainable on many budget levels. although i am not single and have kids so i cannot relate 100% also i don't know your age but i am only 27 and ruined my teeth. also life decided to toss in noticeable signs of balding just for fun with me too, not to mention the weight gain since being clean a year now. Yet despite the the low levels of confidence i have and loosing all my friends in the process of recovery, i DO have someone here at home who is motivating me. So this is me trying to tell you you can do it and you can fix that busted grill with some pearly whites my friend  I got your back. Sorry if it sounds dumb and corny but your not alone. your still cool and you can do anything and in the grand scheme of things getting our teeth fixed isnt even huge hurdle to overcome and you WILL be happy. hope this helps, cheers

I pay debit for almost everything. Today was actually the first day I just placed my wallet on the debit machine and it worked. it would've worked a long time ago, but I always took my card out to place it on the machine. it's just strange to hear of "chip and pin", or "tap" technology to not be in the states. only time I have to enter my pin is if it's an expensive purchase, or at a store with older tech.

A 'short' personal story about how I learned from going after one girl for 4 years straight:

So like all of you, I struggled throughout high-school because I didn't "know" how to talk to girls. I loved this one girl for the entirety of high-school and I literally never told her. I started to feel more and more uncomfortable around her as the years went by. My relationship with her started as an cool friendship and ended as us being incredibly awkward when we were in the same room by senior year. For a long time I always looked back on that experience with regret, but recently I've discovered how much I learned from it. After I decided in my mind that it was my OBJECTIVE to date her, everything good about that relationship went away.

Fast forward to college, I actually did the same thing and made it my GOAL to talk to this one cute girl in my class. One day I decided I would just do it because I didn't want to have regrets like in high-school. I got up after class while everyone was leaving and I walked towards her so I could walk back to the dorm with her. She quickly got up to leave though and everyone else in the class blocked me from catching up. I instantly gave up on that little MISSION. I ended up walking back with this other person. We pretty quickly became friends because it was so easy to make each other laugh. We didn't stop talking. Like I got her number and we literally couldn't stop talking. She was my favorite person to be around. Life flew by and within a month of being friends we made out, fucked, and said "I love you" to each other. Becoming girlfriend and boyfriend just happened without us knowing. We ended up making our anniversary date a random day because everything blended together so much.

3.5 years later and I know I'm going to marry this girl and we are both excited to see Funhaus LIve on Thursday :D

Basically... You guys are completely right with everything you said. The best partner should feel like a best friend.
