I had a comment I wanted to make that was in relation to whatever Shotgunbadger was saying but then I got more drunk than I was at the beginning of this video and couldn't remember it.

Right now though, I'm going to say that it was in regards to how much I love this show, and its preceding show (Dude Soup) and some other sappy shit. I love Funhaus for both the personalities that are played up, and those that are as honest as can be on interwebs platforms.

Thank you for making a room (Funhaus) within a home (RoosterTeeth) that I belong in.

I have always appreciated and loved the satire in your humor. I picked up on it immediately and it's one of the things that really drew me in and made me want to watch more Funhaus content because it was something I wasnt seeing from a lot of other content creators in this specific field. I find myself easily respecting people who can create really really good satire because it shows how aware someone is about certain things such as, white privilege, misogyny, hegemonic masculinity, ect.

I dont know if my phrasing makes any sense in what I was trying to say so here's the simplified version: I love you all, keep making satirical jokes.

i mostly agree with adam on his white privilege opinion. it almost never happens that people point out you guys making jokes about other racists (black, asian, etc.) because as a whole, we just assume that those are commonly accepted to be made fun of and joked about (example- stand up comedians who aren't white generally have an entire bit they go off on about their race because they know the majority of their audience will think it's funny and laugh at their expense [in reference to their story]). people (i'm assuming white people) who are making comments about how upset and "offended" they are when adam makes a joke about white privilege are pointing out their discomfort on the subject. so they're not offended [on the behalf of the race] when you make jokes about blacks and asians, but they're offended when you make jokes about whites. there's clearly a double standard.

like you said, you guys make jokes about every race, gender, religion, including your own, and the fact that you recognize it is great. i just think people should learn the difference between offended and uncomfortable because they're not really the same in this context

edit: i paused the video to write my comment and not 5 seconds later, lawrence said what i said in about 10 words hahahaha. anyway, like i said, i agree with you guys and find it silly that there are people who are making comments like that

I'd wager it has quite a bit to do with the delivery of the jokes / lines.  Where as James' non descript Asian stereotype is so far over the top it would be difficult for anyone to take seriously Adam's "straight man" deadpan delivery of the joke could easily be misconstrued as another "young white person being professionally offended for others".  But also what you/they hinted at, when dealing with straight faced delivery with jokes at "your expense" or aimed at your group  it often requires a certain level of introspection for someone to really get it.  Where as the same joke at someone outside your circle (socially, racially, etc) tends to be easier to pick up on.

Personally, I always took the self deprecating "white people suck" jokes as sort of mocking the  PC / professional victim culture (similar to what south park did in its last season, only using a different method of comedic delivery. i.e. straight faced vs. the over the top hyperbolic exaggerated delivery)  To keep it within FH, it is sort of like how [I think]  Lawrence plays up that annoying online gamer persona sometimes where his voice will pitch up and he will adopt a whiny tone in a video when things aren't going his way.  Objectively, everyone hates "hates" that kind of person, but as a group with a gaming audience it is a relatable caricature that people can find humor in.  Given that FH probably also has a sizable audience that is well traveled on reddit/tumblr (or wherever that stuff really takes place)  Adam's caricature fits right in.

I love any bit where the guys are oblivious about something - the female anatomy, the glass ceiling, Canada, whatever - and they call Elyse over for confirmation.

Because my first thought each time is "Finally!  A voice of reason!"
And then she catches me off guard with something even more absurd.  It's wonderful.

The best part of FH's sense of humour is that they can have a bit of fun at everyone's expense without taking themselves too seriously. Because honestly, if you take a step back, everyone's a bit ridiculous

I think Adam is confusing "white privilege" with "first world  privilege". White privilege doesn't really exist as such, just go to countries like Japan or India and you'll see tons of people who have enough money and resources to live 20 lives comfortably and none of them are white. White privilege is a crutch that closes further conversation about topics such as discrimination and profiling, topics which are deeper and more complex than "Is it because I'm <insert non-white skin colour>?". The term white privilege is damaging real talk about serious issues and infuriates those who are white and feel like they are supposed to feel guilty just for existing.

White privilege exists, dude. I don't know what else to tell you. As long as racism exists, white privilege will exist. It isn't about guilt, it's about understanding that others don't have the same opportunities that you do. I don't feel guilty about who I am, but I try to keep in mind that others might not have what I do, and use what I have to combat that. Guilt has never been a part of the equation. Source: am white dude.

This is just my opinion but I think the lack of single player games is caused by the internet (sort of). The US and Europe are extremely competitive cultures and generally foster the idea that competition will grant a larger amount of satisfaction in any given activity. I think the original goal of many developers was to create multiplayer games but were barred from it by tech barriers. Now that it is feasible to create online games, the American market has just followed the genre that Americans have traditionally enjoyed the most. I think culturally, the traditionally isolationist Japan does not put as much stock in competition and so their games (Nintendo/square/sega) don't reflect the more competitive desires of the West. I'm mostly writing this because I'm procrastinating on my actual Paper

    • A_Suarez

That's not exactly true. Competitive behaviour is a human thing, needed for our species to survive and procreate. And eastern countries are also very competitive, just in a different way. Look at MMO players, Chinese and Korean players spend so much time playing those games that more than one case of people dying while playing them exist over there, and these games are not single player. Look also at competitive gaming in Korea and Japan, where the participants are treated as celebrities, appearing in TV commercials and being involved in celebrity controversies. You should't shit on your people and culture to feel smarter.

I haven't played The Last Guardian and probably won't until January, but the control issue sounds like they're straight out of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus; they're controls for a PS2 game. It's not great for this day and age, so it sucks for people who are not enjoying it because of that. But it sounds like I will still enjoy it because I'm used to those controls (I've played Shadow maybe over 50 times from start to finish), and I know what Lawrence means when he says there's a lag because it's present in those two previous games as well.

Makes me wonder if Team ICO really did not learn how to overcome that issue or if it was designed to be like that by choice.

About the "jokes about white people" thing.

    Preface: I'm a white dude.

Short version: A lot of it has to do with your background and default mindset. I grew up (similar to what Adam was saying about banter with his wife) with people of all genders, ethnicities, etc. In high school (and beyond) one of closest friends we called black-y on the basketball court. I was Jewy (I'm a Jew). One of my pasty white friends was White-y. We found it hilarious and when I try to explain it to people, some "get" it, others don't. If you have a baseline of being a white person that can't understand the plights of other groups of people, you are probably the one getting all worked up over racist jokes towards white people.

Last thing-ish. (As a jew) I remember friends and I joking about me being jewish like a few years ago in public and someone random came up and felt offended. I started talking with them and they explained to me that they *weren't* jewish, but it still offended them. And I want to emphasize that the literal word they used was "offended" NOT uncomfortable. I think these people are the same types of people that get offended by white jokes. There's a cognitive dissonance with being able to empathize and truly understand other cultures.

Tbh: I think my favorite (non-funny) thing you guys do is when you have the parts where you are just being you (on the podcast mostly). It almost feels like a debriefing that we get to see and hear and we get to see/hear your mindsets.

Anyway keep up the awesome work! Thank you for making my days great <3. (and Elyse was objectively a great hire. Called god, (s)he can confirm it as fact).

I'm actually glad I disagree with Adam's comment about the frat dude. I personally think that people's personal problems are relative to their life. Yes being bombed by radical groups is way worse than whatever problems some white guy in the US may have (maybe), but I do feel we all have a right to complain about whatever is bothering us. Wether that resonates or infuriates someone else is up to that person. The reason I'm glad I disagree though is because it shows that I (and hopefully a lot of other FH fans) don't just agree with them because they're fans. The mature discussions made on the podcast spawn a diverse group of opinions and discussions. I find Dude Soup and the Post Show are almost a sort of safe haven that I can go to to hear conversations with ideas on both sides of the argument. Rather than other platforms like twitter where it's black and white with almost no grey area.

As a white dude it boggles my mind when white dudes complain about PC stuff and double standards when it comes to what is and isn't off limits especially when it comes to comedy.  I don't think anyone should have to feel like people are prejudiced against them, but when someone makes jokes at the expense of white dudes, no matter who it is, never have I felt like it has threatened my individual liberty.  This is mostly because the liberty of straight white males has never truly been threatened in this country.  So I would like to request more white dude jokes.

Specifically my recommended videos have been MUCH better in the past few months, so yeah, I think whatever youtube is doing is for the viewers, not as much for content creators as they said. Just a personal observation here, I haven't done actual research other than following the general video game market for a while now.  In answer to one of the comments though, I think one possible reason we're seeing a lot of retreads, re-releases, etc, is due to a seemingly shrinking middle ground in today's industry as the THQ's of the world that existed between the AAA and indie space seem to have dwindled into obscurity to a noticeable degree.  Granted, the quality of the games produced wasn't always the greatest (as evidenced by the fact they shut down) but at least original creations were coming out.  The sad thing is I don't really see any change coming anytime soon either, why would you as a company take the risks that come along with an original property when you can put out Sequel X which already has a customer base to draw from and profit off that built-in loyalty?

My hope is that things like indiegogo/kickstarter/patreon continue to pick up steam so that people can "invest" ahead of time into games they want which may close this gap but I totally agree with you.
