Don't neglect your hobbies. As time goes on, you'll find less and less time to do the things you love that's going to make it real hard to keep a hobby going, but find a way to keep that alive. Friends and family are good, but your own hobbies where you have time to yourself and enjoy something on your own without relying on being social is what is going to keep you from going insane. You're going to hear a lot of people telling you that you need to find a way to manage your time to study and do homework and read, etc. but managing your time to not do that stuff for a couple hours a day and focus on a hobby is just as important.

      Good luck!

If you don't want to be disappointed, don't invent facts that are better than the reality. People thought of No Man's Sky as this infinite sandbox of infinite possibilities, whereas it really is a near-infinite sandbox of picking up rocks at the moment. I also want to adress Mass Effect 3 (because it keep being brought up for some reason) and say you were never promised that your choices would matter in the last fifteen minutes. They didn't say that, and it wouldn't have made sense that it did matter. At some point, you have to think what are unreasonable expectations and don't hold a game accountable for not delivering on those.

On the other hand, it also falls on the studios and publishers to communicate what their game is. In the case of No Man's Sky, it was left unclear what the game was until it came out and people started playing it. I get a sense that it was intentional and that leaving that mystery float is good for preorders and day one sales, but that feels to me like deception tactics. It came as a surprise that there wasn't multiplayer. If that isn't a serious failure in communication, intentional or otherwise, I don't know what this is.

Bottom line: we need more open communication and less unrealistic expectations.

The problem is that this resulted FROM open communication. Sean Murray said what he wanted, and that became the problem. I completely agree that it's a failure in communication though.

As sad as it is, this is a case study for why developers aren't really allowed to talk about their games while they work on them.

Any suggestion on free (or VERY cheap) editing programs that I can use for my second attempt at editing. Adam and Bruce were right that I should probably spend more time than the half-hour between classes and expecting PERFECTION.

EDIT: Not Windows Movie Maker please. That's what I tried using and it made little to no sense. Thank you guys for great work and inspiration!

HitFilm often offers their previous program for free when a new one comes out. I have HitFilm 2 and got that for free a few years ago, it's brilliant for editing and I've had no issues with it.

Apparently HitFilm 4 has an Express version for free currently. I'd give it a try and keep a look out for when they release the next free licences. https://hitfilm.com/express

i think it's unfair to compare star citizen to no man's sky sure it's taking a while but they are taking so long to make sure they do everything possible to fulfil their promises and you can play it already with a lot of the amazing things they promised already in the game. I pick it up the odd time and it's great

Yeah, I'm sure No Mans Sky is fine, but my problem isn't with the game. It's that Sean Murray said that there are things in the game (see: http://goo.gl/0vnrqt ) that didn't make it to the final product. And that's totally fine, shit happens, game deving is hard, I get it. But I don't like how they acted like nothing had been changed.

Sean Murray was still clinging to the whole "the chance of finding someone in a universe this big is very low" thing all the way up to release, and now we know that there isn't even a player model. You can't interact with anyone, but they refused to just say it.

And I get that it's a lot of bad press to just come out and say "Hey, you know that laundry list of cool shit? That's not happening." It just kinda rubs me the wrong way.

The sad truth to this whole situation is that I chose to spend my time writing a comment about my irrelevant thoughts on a video game that I was never going to play instead of doing literally anything else.

I live in Calgary, so about an hour and a half away from Banff. Tbh, Banff and Lake Louis are both really pretty but also very touristy. Not that it's a bad thing, just lots of people in the area, and gift shops as far as the eye can see. The National Park itself is beautiful, lots of gorgeous nature stuff to check out. Also boo Vancouver and the Canucks, Go Flames! (Don't tell them the city is actually really cool or anything, don't wanna inflate their egos) Yeah Vancouver sucks! (It doesn't but I will never actually say anything nice about them...or Edmonton)

I love you guys and I became a first member because I wanted to support Funhaus, but NMS was false advertising. https://archive.is/V5Zns Don't lie about features in a game be it coop multiplayer or otherwise. Steam only has a two hour return policy and you can't find a friend within that time to check, nor should you have too just to make sure.

Man, if you want to discuss game marketing, take a look at FFXV. Sure, Square's got a movie and the free youtube anime. Yeah, they've got companion games coming out around the same time as XV. They're on top of all that, but what they're really doing well is honesty about the game. For example, after they postponed it two months, they apologized with an hour of gameplay from their master copy of the game. Like "This is what we're working on and this is what you'll receive when it comes out in November. We just have to figure out distribution and fine-tuning." It's some rad shit, yo,

To sort of counter what Bruce said when it comes to Video games vs. Movies ("We don't do that with movies") I'd argue that we as a whole absolutely do that with movies. It doesn't happen quite as often [as with games] but if you sit down and think about it, there are numerous cases where movie trailers sell audiences on the tone of a movie only to see reviews/ critiques basically saying : "The trailers contained the only action in the movie, the rest was a bore." or "Pretty much all the jokes were shown in the trailers, there were no other funny scenes in the movie" or like people have hinted at with Suicide squad (haven't seen it personally, so don't want to speak with any kind of authority) the trailers sold the audience on a Joker heavy movie and apparently he only showed up in a pretty limited scope.

I'd argue we've sort of come further with games in tempering expectations (with No man's sky being a recent vocal exception) because think back ~5 years ago and the hype revolving around cinematic cg trailers vs. actual in game footage. Now you still have those hype trailers, but many have become saavy enough to know to look for the "Ingame footage" or "Rendered in the engine" rather than buying into the hype of a cg trailer.

*Quick afterthought, because going long here. Of course the latest iteration of "Hype" can be seen in games like the division where you have gameplay that gets show off then later downgraded to comfortably run on the current iteration of hardware.

So this is my first Ever comment on the Rooster Teeth Website as i became a First Member for Twits and Crits. still can't Change my profile picture and its a shame to it was going to be Rebecca chambers. I wanted to Talk about the Whole Buying a game Day 1 thing that you Guys and Gal have been Talking about since IG. I Bought the Order 1886 Day 1, and I was greatly Upset with my purchase as it was nothing like i thought it would be. The thing is that i deserve no sympathy as Elyse Said! if i went on twitter and Searched The Order it would come up along with 300 review links. If i Searched the order on Twitch i could see Possibly a Streamer with a Sad face cursing the Game and if i searched it on YouTube it would take me 3 Seconds to find a video of Possibly somebody i trusted saying they Loved or Hated the Game. As much as i would have loved to Get angry at the Developers, Their job was done no matter how good the Game was. Nobody forced me to buy it. I could have Saved 74 Euro if i just waited a couple of minutes that morning of February 20th 2015 but i Didn't and that was Silly of me. I still buy Games Day One but now i wait 2 minutes. Love you Guys have a great day! P.s Lawrence Stop stressing over being a good Podcast Host you are seriously one of the best! P.P.S my User Name does not reflect my age i just Picked 99 as it was the Release year of Spyro 2 and i was playing it at the Time! it should be 94 i guess.

I think what sucks most about No Man's Sky marketing is that if they had stayed a somewhat low-key indie title with minimal support and guidance from Sony it would have started as a sixty dollar title, performed poorly, dropped in price, received many improvements through patches in an effort to recoup lost profits, and would probably be a better game for it. However, because of the extreme negative attention it received and the fact that it sold very well initially I don't think that any money is going to be put towards implementing formerly promised game features. And like you all have said games like this are in development all the time especially with the tag of "ultimate space exploration simulator" (fucking spore). I remember reading about a game called Ego in EGM back in the day which would eventually become Fable and it was going to be the most advanced reactive game where every action would alter the world. I got so burned by the marketing that I didn't play the game until it was twenty dollars years later which sucks because it was actually a game that I really liked.
