At first I was a bit upset that they were changing the Animus design for the movie, but the more I thought about it, the more it made sense having the robot arm for the "Bleeding Effect" and how the subjects learn how to become like their Assassin Ancestors and do sweet flips and shit..
But then I thought about it again and wondered why Abstergo would do that.. It would make more sense for them to design the Animus as a table so that the muscles of their subjects would weaken the more they went under, to reduce the chances of a revolt..

Anyway, the robot arm looks cool or something.. Good point, guy.. Thanks.. I don't know how to end this comment..

I thought that too as I was watching it, the Templars were literally training Cal with the Animus.

@DrumBoxyThng, right? it's like all they were thinking abut was moving the story along as quickly as possible instead of using character motivation to drive the story..

Which, if you're going to use a whole new character that hasn't been in games yet, why would you feel the need to tell the exact same story as the first game?

They gave themselves the ability to have creative freedom but then completely ignored it..

Bruce, Marketing budgets are usually half of the total budget of the film. There are a few movies where that isn't the case(ie Star Wars The Force Awakens). But tons of of producers and directors have said that on larger budget films the marketing budget is half of what the total budget to make the film was, usually pissing off some directors and a lot of producers. Kevin Smith does a podcast called SMODcast where Scott Mosier(his long time producer) and him talk about Hollywood accounting and this is one of the topics that comes up, a few times in the three hour long podcast. So the next time when you're folding all three pairs of your shorts that you hand washed in the sink and blow dried by driving around down town Burbank, maybe look it up and have a listen, also you can have Assassins Creed in the background because why not.

The funny thing about the first Assassin's Creed game was it didn't acknowledge the assassin's missing finger. We just had to assume it was missing to make room for the hidden blade as seen on the cover of the first game. The only verbal mention of the tradition was in AC 2 when da Vinci played a joke on Ezio.

Adam was saying how he felt bad for the audience around him because even though he liked some of the stuff, he knew they wouldn't. I went to see the movie with my grandparents and throughout the whole thing, felt the same way as Adam. Turns out, at the end of the movie, both of them loved it. My grandma likes world building and loved that aspect of it, and my grandpa likes action and he thought it was great. Me, as a more critical movie fan, knows this movie was flawed in both areas but I just thought it was interesting that both of them really enjoyed it, flaws and all.

It would work WAAAAAY better if the Assassins Creed universe did a Netflix series that filled in the gaps, not a stupid video game movie series.

That's the way I felt about Warcraft. No matter how it could be done, a single movie would be to cluttered to tell the story in a satisfying way.

To argue the point about pleasing everyone and needing to explain everything, I like to reverse the situation and think "What if Film X was based on a video game already?" So, take John Wick and think about if it was a design-by-committee film like Assassin's Creed: the feeling that the executives had to levelthe playing field for first-time and newcomers to the franchise means there'd be an explanation of what the hotel and the tokens were, there'd be an origin story for several side characters and John himself, and you'd go away not even thinking about any mysteries it had to offer. The fact they felt the need to "catch up" newcomers to Assassin's Creed really hurt the film overall when it could've skipped a lot of plot and explanation advancement for the sake of spectacle and then letting viewers who had questions explore themselves by purchasing the games and playing through to catch themselves up if they were interested.

Yeah I have to agree with Adam at 10:00. I was very much interesting in Desmond's story. I played the game and hunted for all the clues so I could figure out the story and figure out exactly what's going on. Then Ubiosoft completely dropped the Desmond story line along with the Adam Eve story. The sense of a sci-fi/mystery element always got me to play the games however with that hook gone I haven't played the last two major franchise's.

Though I think it was in response to what the majority of the gamers wanted. A lot of people, me included, did not give a shit about the modern day stuff. I was more interested in Ezio's storyline, which is why I only played up until revelations to finish his story.

my takeaway from the movie is that video game movies are at least getting better. This film stuck with a tone and at least translated the free running and combat well. So, I guess it's just indicative that the NEXT video game movie might actually be worth a few views

I think video game movies are just stuck in a Schumacher Batman/Superman Returns phase and eventually a Christopher Nolan or Jon Favreau will come along and set things right. I just hope they stay away from Metal Gear until that time.

Another video game movie that just didn't work, I guess. But I agree with Lawrence, it didn't feel like fanservice at all, because I usually buy into that stuff. (Which he KIND of said)?

I'm with Adam on this one about the overarching plot of the games. First they killed off Kristen Bell for no good reason (other than to stop paying her money), and then they just completely killed off the entire plot arc and carried on like it never happened. That background story was why I was playing those games in he first place! I liked having a reason to go into Animus - anytime I did, I was getting some more information for the "real world" which was what "actually mattered", whereas the memory sequences were just "training" for the incoming "war". The decision to scrap all of that was really a baffling one, pushed probably because AC started to become a yearly franchise, developed by separate studios. Now without all that, AC is mostly just a plot-less, old-timey "stab 'em 'till they're dead and parkour" simulator.

This is the first time I've seen anyone sum up exactly how I feel about the direction of the franchise. While I did enjoy Syndicate, the "modern day" stuff felt so flat and uninteresting, it's like they can't decide if they want a story outside the Animus or not. Killing Desmond was such a bad decision, I was really interested to see what that was all building to.
