This week the boys sit down to talk about "XXX: Return of Xander Cage" as well as the larger XXX-iverse, which is a thing apparently. Adam also plops down some IMDB trivia and brings us up to speed on the ever-worsening production of "The Batman".

Well, I was hoping you guys would turn Filmhaus into a show where you talk about movies people are actually interested in and not a parody show where you discuss the least interesting movie that no one cares about in the world.

Also, I like how they get all snobbish like they know what it takes to direct/produce/act a quarter billion dollar film. It's a bit infuriating seeing Lawrence laugh the way he did as if he KNOWS for a fact everything that goes behind the scenes from just a couple of sentences released to the press. Big L.A. guy knows all the ins and outs of filmmaking!

I like to think that it IS a physically demanding role. I'm not saying Affleck didn't step down for other reasons, but I believe the demands to star AND direct such a huge hollywood blockbuster may have contributed to him realizing he couldn't do it.

First of all, keeping that bulk muscle for that role is not easy. As a group of people who are obsessed with working out, one would think that they understand that he already has a hard job to do OUTSIDE the filming aspect in order to perform this role.

"15 months ahead of time... I was training six days a week. It's hard to gain muscle, especially at my age." -Affleck, BvS behind the scenes.

He can't just go back to the way he was living his life, he has to keep his physique in order to keep portraying the role. He has to stay on a diet and work out in order to maintain that Batman physique. That alone can be exhausting.

Second, directing a movie takes a lot more than just coming in, doing your lines and walk out. You're there the whole day. Think of any star currently portraying a comic book hero in any movie, DC or Marvel. You think Robert Downey Jr. stays on the set after he's doing with his scenes? You think Chris Evans shows up on set on days when he's not shooting any scenes in order to help people make the movie? No. One, well obviously because they're not the directors. But also two, that acting and doing stunts in heavy stupid looking clothes is exhausting and if they can get off the set the minute they can, they will and they do.

Portraying a superhero takes a bit more work, especially since you have to sit through an excruciating amount of time in make up. You think a director has the freedom to sit on a chair for 2 and half hours suiting up? Directing in a 75 lb suit? Sticking around until the end of the day on that suit? And at the end of the shooting spend another hour taking everything off? Take one look at a behind the scenes footage, for god's sake, and you'll see how uncomfortable he looks in the Batsuit. In the movie, he looks fine because he's acting. But that shit has got to be hard to work on. Even in just photos you can see how tired he is.

And you compare to that to his role in Argo, where he wore what, a blazer and glasses? C'mon, you guys are smarter than that.

“I’ve played the part, so I know what’s it’s like to be in the suit. I think I’d have to modify the suit to make it a little bit easier to put on and take off if I was really going to be directing the movie as well. When you are just in it, you can be sweating, crazy and exhausted, just do your part and walk away. But when you’re a director, you can’t walk away. You have to answer all the questions and be there for everybody." -Affleck

Add to that the fact that as a director you'll be butting heads with producers who keep changing these giant films to suit their needs who constantly fight the director, that makes you pull out your hair and you got yourself a goddamn big role to fulfill in this movie. You even touched upon that.

So why is it hard to believe that maybe he really, physically, can't do it? Why is it hard to believe that he just doesn't feel like he could handle all that physical demand?

I see this move as the best possible outcome, as long as they find a good director. Because I'd rather see a movie done by a competent director who can completely focus his attention on directing the best possible version of a Batman film, rather than getting a mess of a movie stitched together by a worn out guy who had to juggle different roles and probably wouldn't want to ever be in a DC film ever again afterwards.

That said, I'm not arguing that what they said didn't happen. I think it's entirely possible, even most likely, that Affleck and DC butted heads and he chose to step down as director because of it. I'm simply arguing against their naive and condescending point of view where they don't think making a Batman movie is demanding. That making a drama film like Argo is actually more physically demanding. And laughing at his remarks like they know more about filmmaking, and about what his own body is capable of, then he does.

All I'm saying is that it's also possible that Affleck said "This is too much for me, I want someone else to take this load off my shoulders so we can make a good movie."

I think Affleck was forced out in direct response to Live by Night's lukewarm critical reception, and terrible sales. According to IMDB, it made $74,618 its opening weekend, with a budget of $65,000,000. As of Jan 27, it made $16.7 million.

Also, Smith isn't telling Affleck anything. They haven't been friends since Jennifer Garner entered the picture. Smith makes it a point to mention this basically every time he can on his podcast.
