I saw IT last weekend. I thought it was a good movie, my only issue with it was that it seemed way too long.

So.. Adam said in the book, after the gang fights pennywise, they get lost, and then they all have sex with Beverly to find their way out. I said something to my wife about it and she had a really good point; if becoming a "grown up" means having sex, couldn't just one of them have sex and lead the rest out?

Are the sponsorships and advertisements rolling in for Filmhaus because the blanket approval system caused by the Adpocalypse on video game content means sponsors find film reviews to be safer content to advertise on? Just because film is an older media that they perceive to be safe?

Weird conclusion they're making if so, but I don't mind; Filmhaus is great!  "Aliens Vs. Avatars" gave me insight into Funhaus filming experiences, "Death Note Anime vs. Netflix" pushed me to experience the manga for the first time ever, and "Skip Planet of the Apes?" reminded that Congo is, in fact, a film that exists.

Really excited for more Filmhaus! It's one of my favourite shows you guys put out.

Also this one made me move 'IT' to the top of my "to read" pile because I wasn't aware of some of that extended lore Adam was talking about and it sounds AMAZING.

I loved the film and how Skaarsgard played Pennywise. While it didn't make me jump I loved the feeling of friendship between the kids and the constant dread that's present. I felt like it captured the tone of the book well. Hopefully we get more background on what Pennywise is in the next film, but I walked out with a big grin on my face and immediately wanted to go back and watch it.

  • xenotto FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

For me, the movie was less about being scary and more about the intensity of all the encounters.  And not just from Pennywise.  The building up of the friendship between the losers club was so much better too because of the impact of it all later in the movie.

This was the funniest movie for me branded as a legit horror. The visuals were absurd, in a way I loved. I also really loved that it was much better at explaining all that's happening more so than the miniseries. Many people laughed in the theater too, but nobody but I laughed when Billy shot Georgie in the head with the sheep gun

What I didn't laugh at, however, was that dumb ass looking Madea halloween movie in the previews.

I personally didn't find IT to be very scary. It was full of semi-predictable jump scares and some okay at best acting from mostly minor characters. I hoped for more atmosphere than a slow build and a sudden crescendo violin when something scary was supposed to happen. Also, Pennywise was just not good. The CGI was sub par and sometimes looked unintentionally comical.  I did like however whenever Pennywise would show off his maw. Overall, I thought the movie was a 5/10.

I'm interested in anyone else's opinion on the movie, so let's have a discussion!

What did you think of the story telling, because you pretty much spoke about the aesthetic? Because the book wasn't 1400 pages because it had jumpscares - it has quite an awesome lore, which I felt the movie failed at telling. That's why I'd give it a 6 or 7. Otherwise they could have called it "Paranormal Activity 9", because it didn't necessarily tell the story.

I do agree that the jump-scares were predictable, though.

More Filmhaus? I'm fine with it!

I wish we could get some sort of a TDT cinematic universe with all the references to multi-verses, magic and The Red that would then culminate into TDT. However, that would require a proper TDT ecranisation so that will never happen...

    • peckpogydah Peckpogydah

It's a remake of a 30yr old movie, that was made from a book. I mean, It's not like they can spoil any major plot points.  Not to mention, it's a horror movie, it's not like the plot matters.

For one, it's not too soon for international audiences as I'm in the UK and it's been out here for over a week.

Also, it's a movie review, if you haven't seen IT yet, don't watch it and they literally have 'spoiler' in the thumbnail and they say they're going to mention spoilers several times at the beginning of the video. If anything is spoilt for you here, it's your own damn fault.

    • EvanVanWormer FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Also, they said "Spoilers" before stating anything that is a spoiler, along with putting (Spoilers) in the thumbnail for watchers. Finding shit to complain about for sake of complaining is sad and stupid.

I am not much of a commentor but it genuinely excited me to hear that Filmhaus will become a more consistent thing. As a fan of inside gaming daily, before the inside gaming channel was even created, I have been watching for years and am a huge movie buff. This obviously means that my favorite show you guys have ever produced is Filmhaus, and I wanted to say how great it is to hear about the sponsor news and consistency of the show in the future. Thanks and keep up the great work!

This movie was phenomenal.  I agree with Adam; the movie was more about the "What the fuck am I looking at?!" moments vs. jump scares.  It made the film as a whole feel more genuine.

Awesome news about making more Filmhaus podcasts! The more you make, the better you'll get and the more viewers you'll get as well. Red Letter Media is much the same. Without the Star Wars reviews, they wouldn't be very well known, but now they put out movie reviews constantly and are even more well known. Consistency will breed views.

This Filmhaus is crazy because IT means a lot to me. When I got out of the theater on Saturday of Opening weekend, I was excited for "this Filmhaus. I thought the film was so much fun,

"nah girl! don't go down that hallway!" Great job of source material and nice choice for time period. Nostaligia. I love the movie! Bruce go see IT!

my fav filmhaus, <3 our fears...then kick their ass!

I thought the movie was good, a part from the horror stuff. I typically don't like horror, because I'm a baby, but 'It' didn't scare me at all. I thought it was rather predictable. Without comparing it to the book all that much, I also felt like it substituted the storyline and internal psychological horror with cheap jump scares - like how every kid had to have their own sequence of jump scares, almost like a necessity, rather than focusing on a bit more of their personality (but that's also what I look for in a movie - story and character). When I was reading the book, the horror never jumped out to make ME scared, but made me feel scared for the kids.. sort of. Maybe? It was a different kind of 'horror'. The descriptions of the horror parts never made me scared, it was the theme and concept of 'It'.

And apart from the last 20 minutes, where the theme sort of flies around and I couldn't really tell where they were going with Pennywise, or the deadlights, or how they supposedly 'killed' it so suddenly, after beating the shit out of it with metal pipes, etc, I thought the rest of it was entertaining - Apart from the random references to things that made sense in the book ("Beep beep, Richie", etc), but were never ever explained in the movie, or even disregarded - even had my non-King fan friends going 'huh?'.

Despite not being scared, I thought that with the time constraints (less than 2 hours - compared to a 40+ hour audiobook, for example), and the large amount of source material to deal with, it was overall quite a good movie. Like Jon said, some of the sequences were really, really entertaining, and the movie itself thrived on that god damn fantastic acting and a great script. There wasn't a single loose act... Except maybe the bullies.

I will definitely need to see it again to get a better feel for it.

Also, despite my criticisms of the movie - which, even though I find things in everything, found it a bit hard to find in this movie (a part from deviation from the original story) - I would highly recommend anyone to read the book. King has a fantastic ability to create and develop characters and tell this story in a very, very outstanding way. If you liked Richie in the movie, you'll love him in the book. It also has an amazingly rich lore, told very well, too, which will send you looking through forums for days trying to comprehend it all.

When I saw IT last weekend, this young couple sitting next to me were on their phones the entire time... Barely even looked up. Just texting and watching stories on Snapchat (with fucking sound). At one point I leaned over and whispered, "The fuck is wrong with you? Come on, man." Bought me about ten minutes at least, but god damn, that was the worst theater experience I'd had in ages.

Love that there will be more Filmhaus! I'd love to see the gang discuss both The Room and The Disaster Artist once it is released. A local theater at my college would host monthly midnight showings of The Room, and the audience would throw spoons, chant lines, and other choreographed oddities that made having to sit through that film so much more enjoyable.
