That might have been the worst recap of any series I've ever heard lol. Crashed ship on moon != fortress on moon. Still a good filmhaus.

I was 10/11 when the first film came out and I remember being obsessed with it and the 2nd. I ended up going back and watching all the old cartoons and films and played the first film's game to death. I hold the first film in still quite high regard and actually still enjoy it. But as time went on I sort of got over it all by the time the 3rd one came out. May watch them all again drunk (UK drinking age dw adults) and see if I can get the vibe James and Lawrence are talking about.

These movies are robots beating the crap out of each other, that's all I want from them and it makes me happy.  Also Optimus is a warrior and a solider, and sometimes those guys do things that are not very nice, including taking out some dick head who is just to dangerous.

While the LOOK of Beast Wars is kind of off-putting(I will admit the only reason it is "kind of" is nostalgia), it is still my favorite and IMO had the best writing.

I'm 21(born '95) and grew up with the Transformers movies. Me and my friends loved those movies and went to see them in theatres because we enjoyed them so much. We didn't see the 4th movie in theatres though as at that point we were all kinda burnt out on them and we had started to realise they were pretty dumb films that had started to get repetitive. I still have fond memories of those films and I'm sure I could enjoy them, the crazy robot action with sparks and explosions is still pretty fun. That being said I won't be seeing this new instalment in theatres, I don't feel like it is worth my money anymore. Maybe I'll watch it once it's available to stream somewhere.

@AdamKovic I was born in 1997 (am 20) and have seen all four Transformers in theaters. I absolutely loved them when I was younger. Now, I understand that they are stupid but I still enjoy them for the action and stupidity.

went to see the movie on midnight release, and i have to say i didnt love it, but i also did not hate it.

Much like what james said, the movies are a boring ratio of too much human interaction and not enough actual transformers.

In my opinion this movie literally only exists because they wanted to build a universe at the end of the 4th one.

This movie keeps reminding you throughout the film "this is why this movie exists"

Its one of those movies where if youve seen the trailers, youve seen the movie.

I feel like the movie was a little too comical at times, and it was not serious enough. But for a movie with transforming talking robots, i guess this is as good as its gonna get.

The fight between optimus and bumble bee was weak, and such a let down that im hoping that with a new director the movies will be dleshed out and paid attention to detail a lot more.

Over all id say its a good 6/10

I watched the cartoons until the end of Armada, so when the first movie was being advertised I was so confused as to why it was live action that I never bothered to watch it. It just felt wrong on so many levels to see the characters like that, and from what I've heard they focus way to much on the human characters.

As a 20 year old man, I've just accepted these films as Micheal Bay playing with his Transformers toys in his own little sandbox in his own back-garden. So I don't plan on seeing the newest one.

But, honestly, I want something a little more story-driven with the Transformers IP because I know it can be done. Do something that actually has a message/meaning: why not be a commentary on the consequences of war, or explore what true leadership really is? Sure expensive visual effects are great to watch but don't use them for the same thing over & over again and, also, you need more than just pictures to make your film worthwhile (decades of film have proven this). But 'Oh Boy! Dat Box Office Weekend! Ka-Ching! $$$' I guess.

I was born in 1996 and yeah I grew up with the Michael Bay Transformers, I remember watching the the first live action movie in the theater and of course I was blown away. It was great to my 10 year old self but I had so many questions like where is Hot Rod? Why is Megatron a tank? Didn't Bubble Bee die on Moon Base 1? I didn't realize it was its own entity until they came out with Rise of the Fallen. I just assumed that the movie was just continuing Transformers The Movie. But now Transformers is a multi-billion franchise, I don't get excited for them but I know deep down I'll go see it when can.

This was a very good Filmhaus. You guys just don't shit on Bay just because. You may not like his films, but you do recognize his skill and deliberate style as a filmmaker. I don't like his films either, but it's good to hear a fair and balanced discussion about the art of filmmaking. I have seen a lot of reviewers who just shit on him and his films for a cheap laugh, without really bringning much to the table. Which is a shame how film discussion on the internet has been reduced to people just having very hyperbolic opinions on everything. So big props to the funhaus crew for doing anything but that!

Not saying his films aren't bad, but there is so much more to film discussions than just "this is bad, this is bad, but this part is good. 6/10."

Lawrence's positivity about the series is really refreshing, appreciating it for what it is and enjoying some of the artistry involved. It sounds like Bruce is a little too much on the anti CGI bandwagon, 3D cartoons can be just as if not more beautiful and impressive than practical effects. It's silly to discount the imagery just because "it's fake".

The third one is what made me the most furious. It came out right around when I was newly graduated from college and also looking for a job...so I could already sympathize with his character. Then he has the awful girlfriend who is a total bitch to him because she has a job and he doesn't. They beat you over the head with the fact that the only reason she has her high paying nonsense job is because shes hot. They dont even try to act like this bimbo with big lips had skills...I wanted to punch her through the whole film. The amount of shit she gave him for not having a skilled job when the only reason she has her job is her lips and tits was infuriating. ....Phew. Sorry I didnt realize how much rage I had pent up all these years..I feel better now. Thanks!

To me, there's just so much shit happening at any given moment in these movies, that I just can't keep track of it.  The other problem with the constant escalation of everything is that I end up not caring what happens. Too much flash, not enough substance.

I saw Transformers 5 today. Figured I should see at least one of them in the cinema and fuck it, there's a cheap cinema nearby and I felt like having a headache. It's the dumbest film I've seen since Highlander 2: The Quickening (which means Battlefield Earth isn't as dumb). They seem to have shot bits of different scripts and kept it moving fast-ish in the hope that no-one noticed. The good news is that Whalberg is doing his Happening reactions. Its terrible but like with Highlander sequels, I'll end up watching it when its on TV and I can't sleep. But you know, not as bad as Die Hard 5.

I thought the first one was fine, I didn't mind the human bullshit because the story wasn't complete horseshit. Every subsequent movie is the same damn story, but more serious and convoluted. 3 hours of spectacle just ends up being me being bored, confused and eyerolling.

Have they done Primus and Unicron yet? Because if they have they blew it, and if that's the plot of the new one it doesn't look any better.

24:08 its funny cuz i am that kid born in 97 and am guessing alot of you guys are also that kid, but yea i definitely was into transformers and took the movies seriously but by the third one i was growing out of it and i developed a different taste in the movies i like and now i just appreciate transformers as the occasional great video game (transformers: war for cybertron), i dont see much depth in it, probably because there was no intent for depth to begin with. But i dont begrudge anyone for still liking these movies,
