Thanks to Game Director Brian Horton of Rise of the Tomb Raider for coming to our crappy office and letting us play his amazing game on our crappy podcast.

Also, we talked about Halloween, Candy Crush, and billions of dollars.

I don't mean any offense and maybe it's just because I spent time some the game industry, but I feel that Brian talks a bit too much like he would talk to production people. It's not exactly a bad thing but it feels a bit off to me. I'm sure he likes the game (he's the director after all) but it didn't feel like he was overly excited about it.

Looks great though, not sure if I'll play, but it looks good.

It honestly may have had something to do with the fact that he was actually playing the game at the time, which talking and playing at the same time is rather hard to do.

@Augmented_Smurf Yeah, no. I understand it's very hard to talk while playing a game. I've experienced it first hand. I just meant that about the terms he used. "We iterated a lot on the cover system for the first game and we maintained it for Rise of Tomb Raider" could've just been "We worked hard on the cover system in the first one, of course we kept it"

It's not a bad thing, I'm just saying it felt like he was talking to his bosses and trying to prove that the content was excelling the standards.

I have to agree, I paused the video at 3:02 because it was a bit excessive. Half the time they weren't even talking about the same thing. XD

He really didn't answer questions. They would ask something about design choice from the other game to this one and instead of answering, he just listed all the features.

Speaking of teachers doing things wrong, I had a math teacher with the "new" testing procedure (the common scantron testing we use now) and the quiz had a problem that was clearly written poorly and no one had double checked it before using it publicly. To break it down simply to prove why it was wrong (because I forget the exact numbers now) it was essentially "The dress is on sale for 30% off and is $70 now. How much was it worth before the sale?" most people would quickly be able to tell that it was $100 originally. X - 30% = $70. Really simple, really easy. They wanted you to figure it out the opposite way: $70 + 30% = X. In that context, X = $91 (assuming you modified the $70 instead of X). If you took off 30% of that answer, you'd get $91 - $27.30 = $63.70. I was in 7th grade (~12yo). I answered it right, the testing said it was wrong. I told the teacher that I was not wrong, she said "I know the test is wrong, do it they way they want you to and you'll get it right."

Overall I had a lot of fun playing the previous Tomb Raider, and I'll definitely be getting this one as well, but the one huge issue I did have with the game was the cutscenes. As a player, you knew what was going on in the island and could cross map head shot enemies, but the second you were in a cutscene, Lara couldn't shoot enemies in front of her to save her life and she made the most nonsensical judgement calls.

It ended up feeling extremely jarring to have an awesome version of Lara during gameplay and a version of Lara during the cutscenes that was like Mr. Bean's daughter. It's never good or enjoyable in a game when you know more than the character you're playing as and you have to suffer through their bad decisions during moments of the game where you don't have any control.

This was very cool! I like having these guests and getting an inside scoop with the same humour we know and love from Funhaus.
