I'm kinda newish to DnD but aren't natural 20s considered crits which means they get to roll twice the normal amount of damage?  They have had multiple nat 20s and haven't got the bonus so far so I was confused at why not.

    • TateWard

Rolling a 20 can lead to a bonus action that can be decided by the DM.  Same thing for rolling a 1 which is a critical failure.  In episode 1 peak rolled a 1 and missed the wolf he was targeting and hit James instead.

Depending on your character build you may or may not have a certain amount of critical damage bonus.  Whatever that bonus is gets added to the damage and the maximum amount of damage is dealt.  (so if they were rolling a d6 for damage it would automatically be 6 damage)

Short answer is yes. In 5E, if you get a nat 20 you double the damage of dice rolled and add your damage modifier. So if someone rolls a 5 for damage, they would double it to 10, then add either their str or dex modifiers.

In 5th edition, the edition they're playing, according the the official rules you roll all damage dice twice when you get a critical hit (nat 20). So if you'd normally roll 2d6's on a nat 20 its 4d6's.

You do not however get a "bonus action", some DM's may decide to have a special effect/description go along with the nat 20, similar to what some DM's do with nat 1's. But there are no official rules about this sort of additional effect/description, in the official rules, instead its at the DM's discretion.

I love how Lawrence has a "let's get this over with" mentality for the the first 2/3 of the video, but once his drink gets down to a certain level he's suddenly really into it  laughing

Well he is roleplaying as his character.  Lawerence isn't really apathetic towards the game but his character is.

ive been gaming for 10 years and DM'ing for 5, so my love for the game and the rules is strong... but honestly? to everyone who is freaking out about their lack of understanding for the rules? who cares. they'll learn as they go on, and if anything, those of us who actually understand how the game is supposed to work? we should get even more of a kick out of this kind of thing, Hero's and Halfwits, and Twits and Crits are amazing shows, don't change one bit <3

I have seen Elyse's name spelled so many different ways (even in the same comment) that I feel like them more I see it the less I know how to spell it. Also I might not watch this play through solely because of Dan. I agree about Funhaus having better chemistry but Dan is just so boring and doesn't seem to care. I kind of enjoy AH's lack of chemistry and I find Frank hilarious and knowledgeable. I don't want to start a war but I do want to here the opinions of others.

P.S. Sorry about the wall of text and I understand the irony of adding more text to apologize.

Twits and Crits is more constant comedy, whereas Heroes & Halfwits is more of an experienced campaign (with a couple new players). Both are hilarious and entertaining in their own regards, to me. If they decided two D&Ds was too much, I'd personally vote H&H simply because it's a little more organized.

That said, I don't find much wrong with this one. Other than everyone kind of guessing how to play (they get a lot wrong in this, but that's okay), it's a perfectly fine campaign. Even then, I find it extremely entertaining to see how different people want to play; it's a little frustrating when they miss attacks because they didn't know x or y, but oh well, it's all in good fun. But I can understand that some people simply do not like seeing so many fuck ups, but to them I just say get the fuck over it or don't watch, because fucking up is literally what defines the comedy of Rooster Teeth.

It wasn't the fuck ups that bothered me it was that Dan sorta shot down some of the humor that I love most from FH and it kinda felt like he didn't wanna be there. I restarted it and I like it a lot more this time around.

I was excited to see AH play D&D, but have only watched one episode. FH plays D&D and I am hooked by the first episode. I do want to watch more of AH playing it, but have enjoyed FH doing it quite a bit more. I think the chemistry of everyone on screen is great. They flow well with each other, where AH had some kinks to smooth out. But, that is just my silly opinion.

    • Apathesis

I think that AH's DM, Frank, is far more educated as to the game and its mechanics. Funhaus's guy, Dan, seems a little loose with it. If Geoff wanted to pull one over on him and say that he could do something the game didn't allow for, Dan would let it happen in an instant. Frank is stricter and has clearly put much more time, energy, and thought into his campaign, which is what pulls me there. Both are pretty cool, and to each their own. (Not trying to start a FH vs AH war here, just my two cents)

Much in the same way you can find a character in a film, game or tv show irritating for being a hindrance to other characters, I find Lawrence irritating. That doesn't mean I'm not enjoying the hell out of his roleplaying, but he's achieving what he's aiming for I assume. Nothing wrong with that.

Just giving some context to the irritation people are feeling in the comments. It's okay to find his character annoying, he's playing it that way on purpose.

I feel bad that Elyse feels the need to apologize when forgetting something while playing the game. I don't know if she's actually embarresed or what, but it seems more likely it's just indicative of a culture wher women in the "nerd" culture have to defend themselves and justify their nerd cred or whatever.

Just play the game and have fun, fuck everyone who would take that from you for such a trivial reason. This show is great, Eleyse is great, Funhaus is okay too.

I realize that was kind of preachy. I still think the is harassment out there, but this wasn't the forum to make those posts. I just want people to have fun playing games and watching others play them. But one thing I won't take back. "This show is great, Eleyse is great, Funhaus is okay too."

She pretty clearly knows the most about the game at the table and I think it's just the Dunning-Kruger effect taking hold.

She might just not like it when people are waiting on her, too. God forbid you look at her as an individual rather than part of a group that consists of over half the human population.

we will never know what Lawrence was thinking or what his reasoning for doing that was...and since he has said on record that he plays characters that seem bitching or mad all the time, it's more reasonable to say he was just RPing then snapping at Adam

Guys Lawrence is just playing his character. If you would see him laughing when something funny happens, im gonna guess hes doing fine. Hes playing a character. He wouldn't create a character that is so dismissive, and not play that character like its supposed to be played, just Like how Bruce literally used a turn to get a smoke(lol btw).He is playing his character with that voice, that i wont lie isnt music to my ears. Everyone just needs to chill that Lawrence is TOO GOOD at playing his character.
