    • Store Update! Rooster Teeth x Women's Line

It's no surprise that women are underrepresented in the gaming industry, but after some quick Googling, I found that women actually make up 42% of all gamers in the US, and that number is only growing. Rooster Teeth fans are not entirely different, and the eCommerce team is hyper aware that women's cuts are underrepresented in the RT Store. BUT HEY, that's all finally about to change. So ladies, here's to you.

Coming real soon, we'll be launching a line with 100% women's silhouettes and cuts throughout 2018. To do that, the RT Store reached out to four inspiring/amazing/deserving women at Rooster Teeth and collaborated with them to bring you a collection that speaks to each one's personality and aesthetic. Those women are Lindsay Jones, Ashley Jenkins, Elyse Willems, and Bethany Feinstein.

We are all super excited to finally launch this idea, and have it become a reality. Of course, guys can get in on this too, but just know that the sizing and fits will be tailored for women so order accordingly! What this *doesn't* mean is our normal shirt releases getting a women's option – those will stay unisex sizing – but rather a separate collection that will release every quarter that stands on its own, made by women for women. Got it? Okay cool.

Now, I've personally heard a lot of fans ask whether or not the talent designs their own shirts... since it is their line and all (specifically the Barbara and Geoff collections), so I'll give a little insight on how this all happens. We'll first start out with some collaboration from both the talent and the designer, and they'll tell us what kind of look/feel they're going for. In Lindsay's case, she told us about some Dubstep/Electropop artists that personified her style, and keywords like "skulls" and "cats." From there, I took my moodboards and tailored them around that feedback, eventually coming up with 10-15 designs that we later got together to discuss. From there, we had back and forth tweaking until she was happy.. and ta-da! Clothing line. So the short answer I guess is, no, the talent does not put pen to paper to design these things, but they are very much involved in the creative direction itself.

We wanted to hear not only the opinion of these talented four, but ALL the women in the company (why not, right?), so we held a meeting a few months back and invited any and all women in the company to try on different shirt blanks – see which ones fit better than others, the quality, feel, sizing, etc. and which ones we liked as a whole – which I thought was super cool. I mean, trying on clothes with friends hardly felt like work, but I hope y'all love the things we chose! Shoutout to eCommerce Buyer, Monica De La Cruz, for organizing all of it and being another kickass female who's made this entire project possible.

Another thing to note – we oftentimes work with fanartists. Here, we worked with artist @TheClayDart, who had made this awesome neon cat design in Lindsay's honor, and it worked so well with her style and the rest of the line that we just had to include it. Just another awesome way to make 2018 all about community.

With all that said, being the only female designer on a team of seven, it was really important to me to take on this project. I wanted to give it a... what do they say... "woman's touch," and give the ladies in our community the attention they deserve with designs that are tailored for them. AND I'm beyond excited for you all to see what's next in store because we're just getting started. Here – have a tiny peek.

If anyone has questions, I'd be happy to answer them. And of course, thanks so much to Lindsay, Ashley, Elyse, and Bethany for being such lovely, creative individuals and letting me bring your personalities to life. It's definitely been one of the most fun and rewarding projects I've been able to be a part of at Rooster Teeth.

I've typed the word "women" a lot.

What do you like better: Colored Tattoos or Neutral ink tattoos?

      Answered: Dec 18, 2017

Oooo that's hard.. I prefer black and gray ink on my own body, but color tattoos are beautiful, too. It just depends on what look you're going for!

The design department did a new thing -- and we’re calling it @RTdraws. In case you haven’t heard yet, @RTdraws is our new Instagram drawing account where we’ll post a theme each Monday, and draw around said theme all week long. Occasionally we’ll also sprinkle in some behind-the-scenes content from the Animation dept, or merch art that never got the green light for production, etc etc.

We’d love to see you involved if you have the time (don't forget to tag your work using #rtdraws)! Anything from napkin sketches to fully-crafted digital art are welcome.. skill level is irrelevant to us. We just like to art.

      Check us out here

And if art's not your thing, that's cool too <3

    • Diary of a (sorta) new RT employee

      MicheleFeghali Graphic Design

It's officially been a month! At the start of October, I applied, interviewed, resigned from my previous employer Funimation, moved to Austin, and started working as a Graphic Designer for RT... all within a 2-week span. I'm exhausted. I'm exhausted just thinking about it. BUT I'M HERE and it's been quite a first month.  A little awkward even, but I'm queen of that so what else is new really.

My first day, I was assigned two postcards, "at least one due by EOD, but both done would be better". That would normally be easy-peasy except for the fact that I had no fonts, no psd brushes, no clue, and not even a mouse. Literally.. like the guy before me at this desk used a trackpad. So that was cool. But I persevered! Remember those postcards in the October RT Box? Yeah, designed with a trackpad. Boom.

But it definitely got easier, and I adapted in a weirdly short amount of time. It's always hard starting a new life in a new city. I knew very little about Rooster Teeth, but I did know I wanted to be here. The community, the creative environment, the cool things you get to work on, (the free snacks), the fact that I've literally walked into a conference room with dicks drawn on the white board, (the free snacks). Everyone is SO damn welcoming, like for real. The design office is a little room in the back – It's dark and we don't get out much – but everyone is so so talented. I can't post the things I've worked on for you yet, since you know, most things I do are SECRETS.. but I can say I've designed some show logos, t-shirts, and some packaging projects within my short time here (so make a girl happy and look for them coming soon!)

That's all for now. Oh, also today I learned that if you take a vape smoke break and don't wedge the back door, you WILL get locked out. So that's a tip from me – onward to month no. 2!

What about you guys? What are your newbie employee stories? Share and make me feel less awkward about myself.
