I'd say it was a productive weekend. Got to see almost everything I wanted to see. (Just missed the first VFX panel and the BNL concert) After the 6 hour drive from Lafayette, I stayed at my cousin's apartment, and parked at the house rented by other 535ers, which was a 30-40 minute walk down Congress to the Marriott. The evening before, my only activity was going with my cousin to his friend's movie night, a showing of They Live.

      Day 1

I met up with some of the others at the 535 house, and we walked down to a nearby Torchy's, and informed them the there was a 30k+ convention where the organizers have a weekly podcast that mentions Torchy's all the time. They called their commissary with 5 minutes to spare before the weekend's order would be in place. Great food.

After missing the first VFX panel, I found out there was an RT store in the Marriot, so I checked it out, and to my surprise, it was being run by Chelsea! It was great to talk to her again. As a musician, the music panel drew my attention, and the founding fathers panel closed the day. Too bad there wasn't any sort of pre-panel, hosted by Joel, perhaps...

The day ended with a bunch of us running up Congress to get to my car, so we could go to the Puzzle Room. We got to the car at 10 til 10, which was when we were supposed to get there, though our session didn't start until 10. It was a 20 minute drive, and I had no idea where it was. So the navigation was a cluster fuck not helped by the frontage roads being named after where they are in relation to I-35 and not the direction they go. (S I-35 is the frontage road for I-35 North. WHY)

      Day 2

I went to second VFX panel, and watched some unused VFX, and the panel started making a short VFX shot. Next was the Ten Little Roosters panel, where they hyped up a deleted scene that turned out to be the trailer for Eleven Little Roosters. Also, Barbara may have said things everyone else regrets.

After wandering, I started Murder At the RTX. There was a 2.5 hour wait to start, so I didn't do too much else. After hours, I went to Meet the Lazer Team, which prevented my attendance of the concert, but was worth it.

      Day 3

The third VFX panel saw us finish up the shoot from the previous day, and Brian said he'd finish it up and eventually post it online. I then went over to the Making of Lazer Team panel. Matt mentioned the 535 by name, which was nice, and some of us appeared in one of the scenes they showed. Went up and talked to Matt concerning the song I wrote about the 535, which he had heard through Chelsea.

I spent the rest of the day finishing up Murder At the RTX. Very well done, and next year it will be even better, as the app will hopefully not be so buggy, though it was understandable on this go. I eventually made my way back to the 535 house, after stopping to talk to other musicians, one of whom had actually seen me perform, surprisingly. When I got to the house, the two people there were locked out with no one else there to let them in, so we got in my car, and I drove to the Salt Lick. We were all in agreement that the meat was great, the sauce was good, and the sides were there. Getting back to the house, everyone was, once again, gone, and the one with the code refused to give it out. They eventually got back in.

      Day 4

Stopped by the house on my way out, and then made my way back east to LA. After Houston, my A/C was struggling, but it didn't get too bad. Got back home at 6, and immediately went to a new record store. One of the other patrons had just gotten back from RTX. Fun times.

      Day 5

      STILL NOT OUT

It's been a while, and I don't post as much as I could. I've had a few things going on these last few months Here's a nice summary:

Presented a poster at a geology conference
Recorded two songs direct to vinyl in the record booth at Third Man Records
Finally made real CD copies of my album (I'm already out of them)
Started my Master's Thesis in geology
Applied to start a Master's in physics
Continued writing and recording new songs
      Moved into a new place
Worked on many other things with no real progress to show per se

There's been other things that happened before that never got mentioned, but that seems like enough words for now... Also, I'm finally going to RTX!

I am in disbelief, and it will likely take some time for it to hit me in full.
I remember, years ago, when Haloid was making the rounds on the internet. My friends and I were blown away by how good it was. Much later, the RvB season 8 premier happened. In addition to breaking both RT and Blip, there was one other significant moment: that moment, after a slight pause for anticipation, when the Warthog crashed through the wall, and mo-cap started in the series, marked in the live chat with an explosion of "OH, FUCK".
And an explosion it was, as it kicked down the door to new things. Shortly thereafter, I discovered that it was the same guy that had done the Haloid video. I immediately decided this was a massive step forward for Rooster Teeth, opening worlds of possibilities for the future. No matter what, that door will stay open, the worlds we never would have dreamed up without him will be there for us. Such is but a portion of his legacy.
I have never heard an ill word spoken of him; everyone liked and respected him greatly. Even now, the outpouring of love from the community is enough to give me a "this site is broken" message as I'm trying to post this, as many others are posting their thoughts and feelings. I can't tell if this went up as a comment on Matt's journal entry. That's how many people are touched by his time on this planet. The site is breaking over his death. We will all miss you, Monty.

Please submit your song for the RTX Song Contest as an MP3. Your file didn't play. Thanks!

Ah, thanks for telling me! I was wondering about that, especially after the guy who has his song up said that his took 7 hours, and mine was taking, uh, 24 times that long. Will do.

Ah, yes, I see where it says mp3 only now...

Actually, an army recruiter handed me a copy (or demo, I think) of America's Army for the PC 5 years ago as a recruitment tool.

The US Army commissioned the game as a recruitment tool wink.png

I think it's awesome how many game and song references are in the books. Young Neil is a reverse of Neil Young, and I actually realized yesterday that each book has a reference to a certain game. Book 4 was Sonic the Hedghog and Book 5 was Xbox 360.

No! Wait! I got it! My favorite scene is when Scott learns that Stephen is gay at the end of Book 6. Two of the lines they say are priceless!

Scott: "So like... Julie turned you gay?"

      Joseph: "Seriously. Get new friends."

    • Guybrush64

Wow! I'm amazed you found that! That's really cool. My second favorite isn't really a part, but parts, and that's whenever Gideon does something evil in book 6, they have white text saying What a Dick!. But, if I was to pick a part, I would pick the Vegan Police in book 3 or Crash and the Boys in book 1.

Sorry. I don't know who translated it. I lost the book about 4 days ago, so I can't tell you. Also, reading classics are fun! I had to read (I repeat, READ) the whole Romeo & Juliet play for class, but it was really fun!

I'm not even finished with Inferno. I'm on Gluttony.

Also, my favorite SP moment is NegaScott vs Scott in book 6. The part where he realizes he must keep his mistakes was just priceless.
