Hey guys, I'm off to MCM Expo this weekend in London. Should be fun, seeing as it's my first time. If anyone has any tips, or even better, is going, please drop me a message.

Other than that, see you on the other side, when hopefully I'll have a story or two to tell! (and maybe even a new profile pic smiley1.gif )

    • It's my Birthday

So today is my Birthday. Being that I am now 22, it's not that big of a deal, all the big ones are behind me (for now). Also, as is fairly standard for me, I am going to celebrate by going to work. So yeah, not great. But I did manage to get a bunch of friends together yesterday to celebrate by watching films with me. We watched the first Captain America because loads of people hadn't seen it, then I introduced everyone to The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, which is a brilliant film. If you haven't seen it, you need to.

But by far the best thing about my birthday is the cake my Girlfriend made for me.

I mean, look how amazing that is. I would never be able to re-create that! Anyway, now I've shared that with you, I had best get up to go to work. Have a lovely day everyone smiley0.gif

So, I did the clever thing and timed my holiday at work with the long Easter bank holiday. This meant I had plenty of time to go away. And go away I did, to Dublin. It's such an interesting city, with a real eclectic mix of old and new buildings, spread sporadically throughout the city. Also, it's culture is quite a mix, with it seeming British, American and European all at the same time. Very odd.

But me and my girlfriend had a great time there, there was so much to see and do. We visited the Glasnevin Cemetery, a really interesting place for a visit. We also checked out Christ Church Cathedral and the attached Dublinia museum, which examines Viking and then medieval life in Dublin. Would definitely be a great one for kids.

However, my personal highlight of the trip was the Guinness Storehouse. It's such an interesting place, with such rich history. I was also instructed in the art of pouring the perfect pint of Guinness, which now means I'm critical of everyone else :P

Overall, great holiday, just when I needed one too! I loved Dublin and to be honest, I want to go back again, as there are so many things we didn't get chance to do.

Sooo, work sucks as usual, and there is nothing out there job wise. So i have hatched a cunning plan. And by cunning plan I mean I've had a daft idea that I will pursue. I am going to start my own business!

I am going to begin a business consulting on marketing on social media. How wonderfully niche hey. This may sound a bit random, but I have already helped a few people out with this sort of thing. Therefore, I figured I could have a go at making a career out of this. If I enter at a low enough price point and target small business I reckon it might actually work. But first I need to develop my brand, i.e. coming up with a brand name, logo, mission statement etc. There is a lot of work to do, but I am excited to be doing it. With any luck I'll eventually be able to leave my current job and focus purely on this.

      Wish me luck smiley1.gif

Today is that wonderful day of the year when you can't sit down for fear of the whoopee cushion. As of late there have been plenty of great jokes on the interenet too. So I figured I would start a thread for people to share the best April Fools stories on the internet.

It's been a while since I last posted anything and my life has changed somewhat since then. For starters I have a job. I was very excited to get my job in fact. I am a Marketing and Sales Associate at a small company called Biopac. It's a management role too, not bad for a first job post uni. However, having been here nearly 3 months, I have come to realise the reality of my job. I am just the guy that does the bits and pieces no one else has time to do (or wants to do), which involves a lot of spreadsheets and databases. Not exactly what I was looking for. Also, I've learnt that the only reason I'm a manager is so that I can be made to work unpaid overtime.

However, it is nice to finally have some money again. I can now do stuff like go out to the cinema, or buy video games that I don't have time to play. I might even finish off some of my Yugioh decks! But really, the best part about having money is that I can go on Holiday. And that's what I plan to do. Next month, me and my girlfriend are off for a month in Dublin! We have no plans on what we will do so far, so if anyone's been to/ lives in Dublin, some advice would be great.

I'm also looking at getting further qualifications now. I have developed somewhat of an interest in Digital Marketing, which essentially means marketing on the internet. It's surprising how little people know about this, they just make a website and call it a day. So my aim is to get a qualification in this and start using it to make money. Not only that, I have had a couple of people contact me already to help with their online marketing, particularly with social media. So that might be taking off.

Finally, me and my girlfriend have started to seriously discuss emigrating from the UK. It's not a bad country, but opportunities for our generation are few and far between, especially as the country moves in a more conservative way. I personally feel economically and politically disenfranchised. At the moment, we're fairly certain we'll be moving to Canada, which is cool. It seems a cool place, with nice people and a good economy. And it has free health care, which is always good. However, we have no intention of doing this any time soon, so we'll see what happens.

Anyway, if you've bothered to read this, thank you. Please drop me a message to let me know people actually pay attention to this.

So I got my car back today, after some repair work. What's incredible now though is that I have absolutely no advisories on my MOT. This has never happened before. My car has to be the best little rust bucket ever to be holding on this well!

In some other news, have you seen the Humble Jumbo Bundle? It's a good deal and it all goes to charity. Moreover, given it's name, I expect to see a lot more content added yet! I would get and buy it now whilst the average price is still low.

    • Is Twitter a Video Game

in Forums > Is Twitter a Video Game | Follow this topic

I was watching Charlie Brooker's How Video Games Changed the World the other day, and he ends the show by discussing the Gamification of life. That is essentially how things in the real world have become game like.

The primary example they gave for this was Twitter. Because on Twitter you're pressing keys to make combinations of words that will attract the most interest, gaining you as many followers, re-tweets and favourites as possible. These basically represent scoring, with followers acting as a numerical counter you can compare with others. So really, Twitter is just people trying to get the best score possible.

I feel there is a lot of merit to this argument, but I'm curious to see what others think.
