You've probably been catching some of the sweet merch announcements around The Coop Pop-Up Shop and a few snippets about exclusives in the RTX Store, but I think we should dive a little deeper into what's happening with the RT Store(s) at RTX.

      The Coop Pop-Up Shop

      • The Sunset Room at 3rd & Trinity (across the street from the Austin Convention Center)
      • Open THURSDAY through Sunday, 10am to 6pm.  9am Thursday morning early access for Platinum and Weekend Plus attendees.
      • 6 Brand / Artist collaborations : Achievement Hunter x Rothco, Rooster Teeth x Todd Francis, Funhaus x IHsquared, Sugar Pine 7 x Griffon Ramsey, RWBY x RJ Palmer, and Geoff x Weedboner. (Geoff merch is ONLY available at The Coop for this event.)
      • Collaboration Artists will be appearing throughout the weekend at The Coop to meet with our awesome community.
      • 65 all new and exclusive items ONLY available at The Coop during RTX weekend.
      • 1 additional super awesome top secret RWBY item debuting at The Coop before it's planned Holiday 2018 RoosterTeeth.com store release.  (It's BIG)
      • We fully expect The Coop to sell out of product before the weekend ends, so we're highly encouraging those of you who can to come by and check us out sooner rather than later.  No promises that we'll have anything left by Sunday.

      RTX Expo Hall Store

      • Located in the main Expo Hall, between Center Stage and the food court.
      • Open during normal Expo Hall hours, including 11am Friday morning early access for Platinum and Weekend Plus attendees.
      • Store layout has been completely redesigned from the floor up to allow for a more organized and overall smoother shopping experience for attendees.  i.e. - Want to buy EVERYTHING we have available for Funhaus?  Well, now all brand merch is displayed together so you don't have to dig through 10 different areas to find all of your favorite Funhaus swag.  (Or Rooster Teeth, RvB, Camp Camp, etc.)
      • The largest selection of items ever offered at a RTX event.  With 17 RTX exclusives only available at the RTX Expo Hall Store (all listed in the RTX App right now), 50 brand new items debuting early at the event before their planned RoosterTeeth.com store release, and a massive amount of items from our current lines filling out the weekend offerings.  (You're gonna' need a bigger boat suitcase)
      • What can I tease from those 50 new items?  We know about Baseball Jerseys and Tiki Mugs....What else?  Let's see; New posters, lanyards, and drinkware for several favorites.  New Tees for a bunch of groups and shows.  Some super cool cosplay items, a soundtrack, a Blu-Ray set, a book, a trash talking bag, a flag, the cutest plush toy set EVER, and a whole bunch more that I'm forgetting at the moment.

Geez, that's a lot to take in.  I hope you're ready!  (I'm totally not)

      See you all this weekend!

    • 3 Years!

I was so busy yesterday, that I totally forgot to celebrate my 3 year anniversary with RT!

It's been a damn awesome 3 years at that!  I've gotten to work with so many amazing people here on a crap ton of cool merch projects that it's a little overwhelming to look back on.  I've been lucky enough to see our department go from just 2 people handling it all, now to a full-on team of 8 people handling it all and 10 times that.  (With a ton of support from our partner teams all around the company)  We've gone from just making jokey, reference and quote laden t-shirts, to full on fashion lines and exclusive brand drops.

Where have I personally gone through all of this?  I started as an assistant to our one and only merch person at the time, handling a hundred different little pieces that would get lost in the shuffle otherwise.  LOTS of paperwork handling, all the boring stuff that happens in the background when making/selling merchandise.  Took on some small new merch development projects: ScrewAttack's first RT produced items, several other new Let's Play items around that time, Lazer Team 1's shirts and accessories, then the majority of the first wave of Camp Camp merch was put on my plate.  Partnered with Chelsea on the MDB backer fulfillment, rad.  Most of 2016 was a big blur of randomly assembled projects, since at the time we only had a couple of us running them there weren't enough hands on deck to section out certain categories or brands.  Late 2016 we added a couple new people to the team, and I started taking a bigger role in our convention merch.

In early 2017 I got to work with Barb on her spring line, (the flowers & bones set) which was cool as hell.  Then shortly thereafter I was asked to take on merch development for all of our RT Animation properties.  Getting to partner with everyone on the teams over there was a super cool experience.  (Having been a fan of RvB since nearly the beginning, it was REALLY cool.)  Spring 2017 saw a lot of improvements happen in the department, with new buyers joining our team.  We all worked together to pull together the RTX 2017 booth from scratch, which was massive.  Late 2017 saw a lot of my favorite projects so far come to fruition: Platypus and Caboose talking plush, Camp Camp figure set, the Beacon and Haven Academy lines (which sowed the seeds for a lot of upcoming Animation merch that you've yet to see), and the handful of screenprint posters we've done.

Now we're up to 2018, and man it's already been a whirlwind.  Got to handle more rad RvB merch (That Arcade tee is one of my all time faves.), Nomad launch merch, the RT15 Anniversary items, a little RWBY Vinyl Record.  In the spring we made more shifts internally, with me handing the RT Animation merch reigns over to another buyer so that I could focus more on our convention offerings, board game items, and some yet-to-be announced special projects.  (HEIST, HEIST, HEIST)  I've managed every convention/live event merch booth so far this year, including Funhaus Live, the Geoff Pop-Up, MegaCon, KF Prom, and Anime Expo.  I'll be seeing you all at Fan Expo Canada, RTX London, and NYCC later this year, but first....

Next up is RTX Austin and the Coop Pop-Up store, which are two of my biggest lead projects yet.  We've gone way above and beyond for these, pulling out all the stops.  You've surely seen the cool stuff that Robert has been putting together for the Coop, and some of the stuff I've been putting together for RTX, but you're straight up going to lose your minds over what Monica and all of us have been prepping that you haven't been teased with yet.  Honestly, now that I'm thinking about it, just talking about Coop and RTX Austin may need to be it's own journal post.

Anyway, I've been rambling.  Thanks for an awesome 3 years, and here's hoping that I get to keep doing this for a long time.  :-)

Growing up I was definitely a X-Men kid, and as such I wanted nothing more than to attend Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.  Any time I could find a shirt with just the Xavier's School emblem on it as apposed to the big colorful characters, I'd snatch that up.  I guess you can say I've always been more drawn to 'in world' merchandise.  Items that look like my favorite character might wear in their day to day life, instead of the flashy stuff worn to fight crime/save the world.

Over the past decade or so these kinds of pop culture in world items have become a lot easier to find.  This is the stuff that I absolutely love.  The shirts, hoodies, and pieces of jewelry that subtly show off which characters and stories you connect with.  It's a much more personal connection, one that lets someone feel like they can be a part of their favorite world.

It's that personal connection that I've been pushing over the past several months while working on the Beacon Academy Collection.  That feeling of belonging by owning the day to day wear of a hero, yourself also now becoming an incognito superhero.  A shirt or hoodie that you could buy from a campus gift shop if you actually lived in the Kingdom of Vale.  I've felt like we've been missing that part in our RWBY merch for awhile now, and that taking this idea and applying it to the institution of Beacon Academy just made perfect sense.

Yes, Beacon Academy may be in shambles and our heroes may be miles from home, but I'm willing to bet that someone in the group is carrying one of these Academy pieces with their travel gear (my lien is on Jaune).

I hope you all dig the Beacon Academy items, as the team and I have put a lot of love into getting these created. (And man, Wes & crew absolutely killed it with the photos!!) Who knows, if you like these, maybe another Huntsman Academy will get some love as well in the near future. ;-)

Put my headphones on to listen to some music full blast. 20 minutes later, after getting distracted by mindless internet babble, I'm still sitting here with my headphones on, yet I still haven't turned on the music......or plugged in my headphones. This is exactly how useless I become on a day off.

So I am now going to be Head of RT Store at RTX this year. I'm totally nervous and excited.

I have never worked a booth at a convention before, which is why I'm a little nervous, but......I have spent the last 12 years as a retail store manager. So I'm very excited to be able to bring the skill set that I have developed over the last decade in retail to help with RTX.

Just under 2 months to go. I can't wait to see everyone and help out. :-)

    • RTX Week

      Zac_Fox eCommerce Buyer/Planner

Got my flights and hotel squared away for RTX finally. I'll be arriving in Austin mid afternoon on July 2nd, and I picked an extended stay hotel since it's cheaper to stay a couple days longer there rather than a shorter stay at a regular hotel. So I'll be in Austin for a full week! Last year we were literally only in town for the weekend of RTX, so we had zero time to explore downtown. The extra days will give me a chance to see some sights, and check out some places we always hear about on the podcast and such.

Also snagged an all access pass for Sidequest, and since I'm travelling solo this year I'll have plenty of time to meet and mingle with as many fellow community peeps as possible. I may not sleep all week.

So, anyone else going to be in town early for RTX? Let me know!!

      -Zac

RTX was a blast! I've seen both of us in a lot of the videos from retailers that show the stage. Hopefully you had as much fun as I did. I finally listened to the podcast, and am a little disappointed that I missed it live. Next year, dammit! Hopefully you are able to make it back to Austin next year, and I'll see you then!
