Ya know, I was gonna write a whole thing about Charlottesville, Virginia, but I think this pretty much sums it up.
I guess I'll still write a thing...
Condemning both sides in the face of bigotry/racism/xenophobia/homophobia incarnate is preposterous and Trump can fuck off for his weak ass attempt to address it. I'm no fan of the violence from the left (Antifa), but these white supremacists (Also known as Neo-Nazis) are honestly some of the worst scum in my opinion. Free speech will keep you safe from the law, but there is a line where the things you say or believe will bring other kinds of consequences.
It's hard for me to feel bad seeing a neo-Nazi get punched in the face when many of them deny the holocaust or want another one. Their beliefs are a cancer and that is evidenced by one of them getting into a car and deliberately driving in to a crowd of counter protesters. White lives are valued more than any other when it comes to people like this. The concept of equality is infuriating to them. These white supremacists actually feel oppressed when they have never had to deal with having to fight for equal rights. This is why we are seeing them grow in numbers.
Oh, btw... Can we please just call that tragedy that happened with the car what it is? I believe the word is terrorism. Ted Cruz would actually agree with me on that as well. The suspect is being charged with murder and Ted wants to escalate it to a terrorism charge. For once I agree with Ted Cruz, even if he is the Zodiac Killer.
I believe Trump is much to blame for this group of people becoming so emboldened. Trump is not one to mess around when it comes to condemning or insulting people or groups. He does seem to struggle speaking out on people or groups who support him though. He has not once (since running for office) specifically condemned any white supremacist groups because they are part of his main supporter base. Don't even get me started on the kid gloves he puts on when talking about Putin. If I wanted to I could easily keep going on this particular topic, but the point here is that we have this many white supremacists coming out of the woodwork and I don't like it one bit.
People want to blame Obama for the racial tensions in this country but I'm pretty sure the only thing he really did in any of this was being the first black president. To this day people still claim he is a Muslim from Kenya. You will have a hard time getting me to believe Obama is the cause of this when it seems to me it has mostly been reactionary rhetoric spewed by the people opposing him, and that includes right wing media. It's hard to count the amount of conspiracy theories that were prevalent during his time in office. I think this type of neo-Nazi mentality was brewing well before Obama. Obama just gave them a channel to be more open about it.
If this picture does not make you at least a little uneasy then you might not know your history well. Back in the day these people would have preferred to wear their KKK hoods but these days it seems they have carved out a way to be wide out in the open with their bigotry. I will say the tiki torches are hilarious and I bet that march was mosquito free!
I've been thinking about this shit all night and I still don't have all the words I need to describe my disbelief in the amount of stupidity and hatred we have in this country.
